knit washcloths getting holes-- WHY?

Why are all my knit washcolts getting holes in them ive had these for about 2 years and they are all starting to do it. i am using diffrent washing machine then i had a year ago maybe thats rougher on them or do they just do that over time? Help!

I think mine get holes in them from hand-washing knives - they just get a small cut that's not noticeable at first but gradually and then rapidly unravels. They get demoted to cleaning rags at that point.

could be but i find it hard to believe that that happened to almost all of them at the same time on and the holes are not small

Same thing happens to me. I try to be careful, but it happens. I just retire them at that point.

If they are cotton, they are just going to start breaking down. I notice mine last about 2 - 3 years of heavy use before they start going.

ok its just a bummer but i guess they were well used and i need now to go knit some more thanks

Yep - it happens. Especially if they rest wet or moist in a laundry basket - I kind of ehh - left some stuff in a moist laundry basket for too long and when I washed it all the cotton had holes..
