No words really.

I loved to go to the library when I was a child. I can't imagine not taking my DD to the library. It's one of her favorite places. She's such a bookworm.

Ridiculous! I can't wait until this is resolved.

This whole thing is just ridiculous.

Oh for crying out loud! Yes, this is really going to help improve our literacy rates, not to mention the almight tests. What a bunch of yahoos.

I can't believe that this is even being considered!

Under the current opinion issued by the General Counsel of the CPSC, the law would apply to books for children under the age of 12; therefore, public, school, academic and museum libraries would be required to either remove all their children’s books or ban all children under 12 from visiting the facilities as of February 10.

What are they thinking? This is crazy.

WTH??? I go outside every day and may run into smoke from smokers, exhaust from cars, and crazy drivers speeding too fast down my street, but the govt. wants to ban books because they think they might be harmful to my children??? Puh-leeze.

I wonder if this means our local Barnes and Noble and Borders are going to close down their kids section? And Target. And WalMart. And on. And on. And on.

This is serious?? Not a joke??

Freaky.

I hope some talented satirists get hold of this story.

Ok so I've popped back in to say that if the government wants to ban my child from the library they can just go ahead and try it to see how well that goes over.

I'm envisioning my DD's first sit-in....:

Nonviolent protest anyone?! Hmmm.....a nationwide library sit in....ohhh or it could be a READ IN! Children all over the country could go to libraries and read kids books about civil rights and government intrusion.

I love the idea of a Read-In. You need help planning it, let me know. Our library just opened a shiny new children and family wing, and this cheese me off.

If this really were to happen, it's going to be astonishingly sad that my '13 year old' can't walk yet. How do I know she's "13"? Well, I'm her mother. Nope, sorry, don't have id for her just now.

I don't have a kid under the age limit they are suggesting but I am willing to go and lend a body and voice and I'm sure my adult kid and dh would go to!

Coming back to this...I'm honestly GLAD this point is being brought up. The idea of children not being allowed in libraries or libraries being forced to get rid of children's books is an issue that affects a LOT more people. To be honest, I don't know that I would have heard a word about this new law if it weren't for message boards. Even for the people who have heard about it, it's easy to think it's a stupid law but doesn't really affect them that much if they don't own a business that will be required to do lead testing. But being faced with something as huge as this? I think if word gets out about this aspect of the law, the fuss about it might become a lot more widespread than it already is.

I'm about to fall over with exhaustion, so I hope this post makes at least a little sense.

Clearly, the CPSC has gone entirely insane. I didn't realize paper & ink were havens of lead. :
