Can a US Citizen work in Australia?

Hello!

I'm trying to find some info on working in Australia. Can a US Citizen work in Australia temporarily for few months? What kind of work permit would be required for that? This is for someone who doesn't have a job ready in Australia but would like to search for one once there.

Any help with info would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

afaik, you need to apply for a work permit. you can get one if your prospective employer will vouch for you and fill in some forms and such, or if you apply for one in advance. I think it's very similar to the system in the US with green cards (only we don't have a "green card", it's called something else).
I think if you're under 26 you can apply for a 1 year working holiday visa, and there are special allowances for people who are young and going to work in agriculture (fruit picking mostly).
but your best bet would be to check out the aus govt website. I think it's immi.gov.au but google will find it for you if I'm wrong.
* just make sure you find the official website to get the official requirements. there's LOADS of websites of agents looking to make money off people who want to get into australia. though often it's the easiest way to get visas.
