I have been stressing for the last year about a vacation my husband and I were going on. How was I going to leave without weaning? Would she be traumatized? Would I get engorged or lose my supply? Would she wean while I was gone?
Well, the vacation has come and gone. We had an amazing time! My daughter had a wonderful time with her Mimi. She slept 12 hours at night, took great naps and was a good girl while we were gone. I did not get engorged at all - 8 days! We got home late Saturday night and around 6 p.m. last night, she got this smile on her face and asked for "side". Everything went smoothly. I had plenty of milk and she was very happy to have me back. She slept through the night and we nursed again this morning. There is something physiologically strange about the nursing relationship. I did not get engorged at all in 8 days away from her, but yesterday I started getting a bit full and sore a few hours before she asked. Weird!
What a relief.
The last year of stressing is all over now! There was a little part of me that was scared she would be done when I got home. I am so glad she wasn't!
