Oh no DD had dairy!

We've been dairy free for 3 months and things were going really well. At the inlaws we had mashed potatoes that were made with tofutti cream cheese and dairy free butter. MIL put some chicken broth in to make them more moist and didn't look at the label. I didn't know about the chicken broth until AFTER we had consumed the potatoes so now we're stuck (except for vomiting, but that doesn't seem like a viable option).

What can I/should I do? I know DD will have severe gastro distress tonight due to this. Should I give her Benadryl at all (I honestly don't know what situations are appropriate for Benadryl). What about tomorrow once the dairy passes through my milk?

It's going to be a LONG night. Last time she had dairy there was lots of vomiting.

I would do some epson salt baths for her, and some vitamin C if you have a safe one. Hope tonight isn't too miserable for either of you.

No advice, just .
I'm subbing so I can lurk and learn. I'm always forgetting "proper procedure" for decreasing severity of reactions.

I agree. High doses of vit. c. You can also give gripe water or even just fennel or ginger tea or something before bed to help settle the stomach. We've also had good luck with homeopathic nux vomica.

I would suggest that you make an appointment with or call the allergist to come up with an emergency action plan for future reference.

For our DS (with a history of anaphylaxis) we would use the Epi pen and call 911 for a known ingestion of dairy (or peanuts/egg/treenuts).

An emergency action plan would include when to use antihistamine and how much to use.

An example of a plan can be found here
