Sent magazine filled with FF ads with nursing tank

I'm so mad-

I finally found a great nursing tank that I ordered online and got in the mail today. The only problem? The company sent me a free copy of "American Baby" magazine. While the magazine has a semi-decent breastfeeding article, the magazine is filled with formula and bottle advdertisements. Pages 2 and 3 of the magazine have a huge two page spread for enfamil. Who knows how many pregnant women and moms got the same magazine. The formula companies have enough money to undermine breastfeeding on their own.

Not only did the magazine have all these stupid ads, but it had such demeaning birth info. Their definition of episiotomy: "How to say this without scaring you? Sometimes even 10 centimeters is not enough, and the doctor, um, makes a little cut to help the baby through. You'll be too out of it to care."

Thank goodness for Mothering magazine!

Oh, wow. I don't read the mainstream magazines for a reason.

I would contact the company who you ordered the nursing top from and thank them for sending the magazine and how the breastfeeding article was helpful. But then I would point out the downfalls of including this particular magazine free with a purchase--since it seems more of an undermining of breastfeeding with all the formula ads. You might suggest other information they could include with purchase, like a copy of Mothering or another magazine that takes more of a pro-breastfeeding approach, or even a brochure or packet on the pros of breastfeeding or a coupon for a future purchase or a handful of "Thank you for nursing in public" cards....

I think it is important to make the company aware of the issue of sending this magazine with the purchase of breastfeeding supplies.

I got this magazine for free for a while when dd was a baby (I guess I was on some list somewhere). I wrote them a letter pointing out all the negative things in various articles that they said about breastfeeding in one issue. They stopped sending me the magazine!

I sent an e-mail. No response yet. It's extra frustrating getting formula ads from a company that I assumed was pro-breastfeeding since the sell a bunch of nursing clothes.

Forget the formula ads... This is the single most ignorant piece of medical "advice" I've ever read. 10 cms? They ain't cutting your cervix!!! They'd do a section if they thought the baby was too big to come through there. Or did I miss the part where doctors starting measuring your perineum for dilation???:

The more people I tell about that quote, the more furious it makes me! My episiotomy hurt for over a year, because it led to a 4th degree tear. My Ob told me, don't worry I sewed you up "nice and tight." Later he tried to tell me that my pain was from being "too dry" from breastfeeding, not his episiotomy and stitching job.
