Finally!!!
:
Logan Jack arrived on 1/17/09 at 8:07a weighing 8lbs 6oz and 22 inches long.
A few days prior I would have contractions late at night off and on but would taper off. Friday night I thought it was just another night of prodromal labor, so I ignored it and went on to bed. I went early that night because I was tired and would notice the contractions would wake me but I would dose back off to sleep. I had done that the night before too so I didn't think much of it. I had one at exactly 4a and noticed a sudden gush, I jumped up out of bed just in time for a BIG splash. It woke dh up too.
Before I go any further I need to add the night before our heat was acting up, it was 60's when we went to bed that night and we were gonna call that morning to get it fixed, when I woke at 4a it was already 55 degrees here. So I knew I couldn't have the baby here as planned. I was bummed about that since we had our pool set up and waiting but knew he couldn't be born here so we got the kids up and dh took a shower and off we went. Contractions were picking up but nothing bad, the car ride was hell but the contrax were still 3-5 mins apart. Finally arrived at the hospital around 6:15-6:30a and checked in. They got a strip on the baby and wanted me to stay in the bed longer but I lied and said I had to go to the bathroom so I was able to unhook the monitor and get up. Things happened fast after that. I went to pee, had a few contractions on the toilet and stood up and started vomiting BIG TIME. I knew it wouldn't be long after that. That was 7a when I was hanging over the sink because the shift changed and the new nurse arrived. I'm thankful because she was someone I know from the local mommies group and I know she knows my wishes for a natural, low intervention birth.
When I arrived at the hospital I was still a 4, she checked me again and I was around a 7cm and that's the last time I remember being checked. lol I got on the ball but this time the ball wasn't cutting it for some reason. Strange since I LOVE the ball with each labor but this time it was annoying. They wanted to get another strip but it was hard for me sitting or standing so I agreed with the internal monitor. I hate I agreed to it and she hated asking but she knows if she hadn't she would have got in trouble and since I HATE the bed with a passion I agreed. They had a hard time because at this point contractions were coming one on top of another and I kept sitting up during them, I couldn't lay down no matter how hard I tried. They tried twice and finally got it in. I stood up and my first reaction was to put pillows on the tray that slides over the bed ( the dinner tray?) and I labored like that.. Well, three good contractions later and I had to push.. Oh and I should add this entire time no midwife to be found!! LOL I kinda froze where I was standing because the urge was so strong and she asked me if I could make it to the bed and I said no, so here he came. She got behind me and caught him.. Just me, dh and the nurse!
That last hour went fast!! LOL I finally made my way back to the bed and the midwife arrived 30 mins later to help with the placenta and to check my bottom.. No tears or anything, I felt awesome. It was a great experience (other then the internal monitoring, which was only in like 3 good contractions lol). The nurses were awesome!!! I recommend delivering standing, the next day my bottom wasn't even sore!!
I'm so so very glad I waited and let him come on his own time, it was worth the wait and he is just beautiful! He's VERY alert, he came out wide eyed and sucking on his hands and hasn't stopped since!!! Here are some pics!!
