question, xanthan gum/corn related

hi there again mommas! i was hoping for some input from the mommas experienced in corn allergies. my son among many other allergies has a corn allergy, it is not anaphylactic like some of his and is probably one of the least aggravatable i guess you could say. we avoid all corn, which you all know is quite the feat. i was looking at hemp milk and it looks pretty good and healthy from what i have read. they have healthy harvest brand at the local food store, i did pick one up and have not tried it yet..ok to my point here. it has xanthan gum in it. i did email the customer service to ask if it was derived from corn and they told me that it is made in a lab using corn but by the time it makes it to the milk the corn is gone. so is this ok to use?

I won't use it for my corn-intolerant DD, but everyone is different, and can tolerate different amounts of things. For my DD, corn is her worst, so every minute speck of it is out of her diet.

I really tried hard to make xanthan gum work for us (the same with citric acid), but it's not. We react to both. Tbh I really needed to trial both of them several times to make sure. Taking out both xanthan gum and corn derived citric acid is a big deal, especially when you are dealing with other foodallergens.
Good luck

DD reacted pretty badly to hemp milk (which is a bummer, because the chocolate is to DIE for!!)... but of course I have no idea if it was the xanthan gum (likely) or the hemp seed or both. But I agree- it's probably best to keep all corn out.

I'd keep all corn out, too. I also was one that reacted to even the 'corn free' stuff. It took about 6 months of strict avoidance for me before I could re-introduce the 'corn free' items.

You probably already made your decision, but if it were me, I would avoid xanthan gum. Corn allergy is not a typical allergy. We react(or have the potential to react) to any part of corn, not just the protein as in most other allergies.
