? about FailSAfe and salicyates you avoid!

so I was reading over a link someone posted about hte FAILSAFE diet and it really seems to follow closely with my son's reactions to things--it would lal make sense--however I'm not sure and it's a VERY exstensive diet (also being off dairy and a lot of meats would make it hardeR)--so the point is that they would have a chemical allergy to the saca a something ides right?
would this be less likely since my son is IgE allergic to eggs?

also--he's been getting a red face when eating pears the past month-----after reading last night--I peeled off the skins and there was NO red on his face! I know that's premature to say it "confirms" it--but are there other tests I can do to point me towards the diet (I just don't know if I can do the FALSAFE right now--as in this week or month) ah

We took tomatoes out of his diet as well as gluten 3-4 weeks ago and his exzema has cleared up a LOT.does this mean his allergy could be to only mostly gluten or tomatoes since it cleared up without taking all sacas out? (the only reaction we haven't pinpointed is the random fruits and veggies his face gets irritate RED with) cinnamon is another one--but I just thoguht that was the nature of cinnamon.

what do you all think?!! also those with an actualy allergy to tomatoes--does cooked tomatoes make a difference? (I hadn't realized it was like a top allergy veggie until I looked at the starting solids tables!) TIA

maybe i just need a cup of coffee yet, but i'm not sure what you're asking?

We do failsafe. It works for us. It's not about allergies but intolerances to the chemicals in the food. It's a bucket effect. I'm working on our detox pathways here hoping it will help in the future.

Do you mean salicyates?

If it seems too overwhelming, just start with the fruits/vegs you know are causing problems. Then, keep a really good food journal for everything else. Look for patterns : skin vs no skin, high salicylates vs low, high histamine fruits (tomatoes, strawberries) vs not, etc.

Yes, it's possible to be IgE to anything, esp. with other IgEs. RE: cinnamon. It's a common contact irritant, esp if it gets on skin a lot. But it also can be a very serious true allergen. If you're getting reactions from it at all,I'd cut it out until your child can eat without getting food all over his face. If he still reacts to foods w/ cinnamon, I'd consider it an allergy/sensitivity and not a contact irritant.

Cooked fruits/tomatoes sometimes make a difference, but if you're seeing reactions now, I'd cut them until your child is able to talk and tell you if the fruits/tomatoes make his mouth feel funny. Google "oral allergy syndrome"

is there an official table of high and low fruits and veggies with the salicyates and antahistamines?!!!

i guess I was asking--if i see a couple of the fruits that are high in salicyates and my son's face reacts to them---is that enough to try this extensive diet (FAILSAFE?) are many on here doing this or have not many had success or what?

check here: http://www.users.bigpond.com/mywebhome/sindex.html

here's info on the FAILSAFE elim diet: http://www.plantpoisonsandrottenstuf...tion-diet.aspx

and here's a general page about allergies vs. intolerances, and what that might mean for food chemical sensitivities, too: http://www.fedupwithfoodadditives.in...actallergy.htm

As someone who's just starting the diet (a month into the intro), it makes it a lot easier if you just make a list of what you *can* eat, and then don't think about food. You already know what to cook for dinner, cause the list is only so long, and there's no prep work, because that would create amines It's really liberating, actually...

Also, (I don't know your story) you say you're off of a bunch of meats. Meats form amines quickly, it could be that the meat was just aged/leftover/not fresh and that's why you were reacting to it. So it's possible that this diet could bring some foods BACK for you!

Oh, and I wanted to mention that these food chemical intolerances fall under the bucket category - a bite of a very high sal food might be fine, if you've had no other sals (salicylates) lately, while even a low chemical food can cause a reaction if you're eating lots of it/them.
