I can't find a homebirth midwife

I've looked online, I googled "find a midwife" and I've found a few but they are all (but 1, who is booked in July when I'm due) part of an ob/gyn practice. Is it worth calling them, do midwives who work with ob/gyn's do homebirths?

Did you post in the finding your tribe section. The locals on that board might be able to share personal experiences.

Where in NY are you? I have a list across the state. Pm me, I might be able to help.

A lot of times MWs in rural areas drive farther then MWs in other places. I know the ones in my area area think 100 miles is no big deal, and the MW that might be at this birth will travel 4 hours away. It's worth seeing if any are in nearby areas as well. And sometimes HB MWs do not advertise that well, the ones that I have always end up with have been from word of mouth, they were very hard to track down but worth it.

I would start by asking for referrals, since you will want some feedback about them anyway. You can go to meetup.com and do a search for your area and hb as the interest. Also LLL meeting are a good way to find mws. You also might consider yahoo groups for ap and/or homebirth.

I know a lot of mws who don't advertise so its difficult to find them.

I don't know of any in your area, but I do know that was very difficult to find one in my area also. I found out about her by word of mouth. There wasn't a peep about her on the web, and I didn't know anyone who had a homebirth. Previous poster is right - you might have to go up to two hours away as I did here in my rural area.

- Are there any certified doulas in your area - check ALACE or DONA websites and see if there's one within hours of you to call and ask if they know anyone, or know anyone who had a homebirth. This is how I found 2 midwives.

- Are there any Amish settlements within an hour or two? Ours has a midwife who is Amish, but she has a birthing room in her home and she sees whoever wants to come. She also was not mentioned anywhere, and I never would have found her without asking around. I don't know how you would contact them though
