Help Me Prepare

I think I have convinced my husband that if we have a boy (due in April) we won't have him circ'd! I'm so relieved! I've read a little on these forums about cleaning, retracting, etc. and want to be sure I'm prepared for any special care my little guy needs. Can someone point me to some helpful articles? I definitely won't be asking the pediatrician as I'm sure he's pro circ and probably very unhelpful about the whole issue.

Thanks!!

there is no special care....just wipe the outside..when he is older he will need to retract to clean but that may not be until puberty.

AAP link here: http://www.aap.org/publiced/BR_Uncircumcised.htm

congrats on your boy and your decision

Congrats on your pregnancy and your decision not to circumcise!

There's not a whole lot to know, but at the same time it pays to be well-informed, because our culture (including medical professionals, and grandparents) tend to be fairly ignorant of the normal intact penis, and you might sometimes get some bad advice that you'll need to be prepared to see through.

Here are a couple of good resources:

Thanks! Unfortunately my nurse midwife said that about 90% of the baby boys born in our hospital are circ'd. So, I'm sure to encounter ingnorance and bad advice and just wanted to be prepared.

You will probably want to make some sticker labels for his diapers that say:
Intact don't Retract
(touch my foreskin and my parents will sue)

This way if your baby has to spend any time in the nursery you don't have to worry about a staff member trying to retract him.

Remember swish in warm water during bath is all that is needed. Wipe like a finger if poop gets on him. I always gave my son a little rinse if a diaper was incredibly messy.

You will want to print these and keep them on hand with you when you go to pedi appointments. Remember to remind the pedi EVERY time not to touch or manipulate his foreskin. Also make sure every babysitter knows never to retract.

Keep these on hand:

Congratulations on your intact baby boy! :
