My MW would be proud

This morning at 5 am, I was just starting to fall back asleep after nursing Ellery when our dog started barking like crazy. DH jumped out of bed and there was someone at our door. Our next door neighbor is pg and was due last week. Apparently the baby was coming and they needed help. They're very mainstream so this was NOT a planned homebirth. I'm a nurse so they thought I could help; too bad my specialty area is family planning and not maternity! I threw some clothes on and ran next door leaving DH with DD and newborn DS. Good thing I had some pumped milk in the fridge! When I got there, the baby had just come out. I had them put some towels on the dryer while I cleaned up baby. The cord was really short so I had to keep the baby between mom's legs while she was laying on the bed. She was pink and healthy and beautiful and mom was doing great! The parents were both pretty freaked out. I swaddled baby in some nice warm towels and pretty much just tried to keep everyone calm until the paramedics got there. Every time their baby would cry, I'd start leaking milk! Once the paramedics got there, they had me tend to baby while they worked with mom. I had to suction her a little and they wanted me giving her some blow-by oxygen even though she was doing perfectly fine on her own. Our neighbors just moved in about 6 months ago so we don't know them all that well; I guess we're all going to be a little closer now! I just got home and now I'm totally amped up on adrenaline. I'm going to be exhausted today! What a cool experience! My midwife will be proud!

DH talked to the neighbor yesterday. Mom and baby are doing great; baby is just a little jaundiced. Baby Addison was over 8 lbs and almost 22 inches long. I think they're due to come home today. I made them a lasagna, garlic bread and salad and when DH delivered it, the dad kept saying how grateful he was for me being there. I didn't really do much; they did all the hard work! It was very sweet though! I saw my MW yesterday and she thought it was great. I'm looking forward to meeting Addison again!
