A little-discussed provision in President Obama's economic stimulus plan would demand that every American submit to a government program for electronic medical records without a choice to opt out, and it has privacy advocates more than a little alarmed.

It is true.

To think that our own respresentatives and prez candidates fudged in some way on releasing their health records, but ours are going to be all over the net is too much.

But that is the way it is. I am glad I had my kids at home. If they want to know anything, they will actually have to ask ME because I was there.

Wouldn't this be one of those first baby steps towards a National Healthcare System? They can't put anything into place legally that would violate HIPPA. It'll probably end up being something like the banking systems, I would think. I personally would love it, esp. if I'd been in an accident and arrived at the ER unconscious. It could very well save lives. And there are already models of this system out there, Canada, England, etc.

I would be happy to debate the merits of this legislation with you in another thread, but this is not the thread in which to do that. If you support this, please write your representative and senators to tell them; they're working for you.
