Do I need to preregister @ hospital in case of emergency transport?

I like to have all of my bases covered. Am planning an HBAC and am 37 weeks. My MW asked for me to print up a paper with directions to the closest hospital in case of ER transport (which she says has a 5% chance of happening). If that were to happen, I wouldn't want DH caught doing paperwork, etc... should I preregister on the hospital's maternity site just in case? What did you all do???

I have preregistered at the hospital each time just in case. I wouldn't plan on going unless basically surgery was needed, but wouldn't want to deal with any paperwork if I had to go.

It's one of our province midwives HB requirement and I think it makes sense.
It sure makes things fatser if you have to do an emergency transfer.

How does that work ? ( I've never actually pre registered before ) The OB I have been seeing is at a different hospital than one I would be transferred to if there was an emergency. Do I just call and ask for the papers to be sent to me ?

I am doing the pre-registration right now and it asks for my OB's info... obviously I am with a MW. Should I put her info in? It's requiring it in order for me to go to the next page... she is not under the radar (she is a CNM and has had good relations with hospitals, just not the hospitals closest to me) but I feel bad putting her at risk of being chastised since she does home births. She also does hospital births so maybe it would be okay to put her info??? What do you think? I have to put something or the site won't let me continue...

Maybe put N/A

Truth is you do not have one, so don't put one down, it might just confuse the heck outta them.

You should be fine putting your midwife's info down.
I preregistered at the hospital last time (it was a hospital birth with a CNM) and just put down my midwife's name under OB. They usually just say OB, but are plenty used to working with midwives too.
It might be different if she were under the radar, but given that she's a licensed CNM, and does both home and hospital births, there shouldn't be any issue.

I did not register and did have to go to the hospital. THis particular hospital got us thorugh the paperwork pretty quickly and easily. MY DH and I are not married under US law, so he couldn't do it for me and that may make a difference in that I had to sign all the paperwork. In retrospective I would have LIKED to have read everything, but was just not in that mood. FOr my next homebirth, I will have the hospital give me the paperwork I would need to be admitted, but not register.

I have filled out pre-registration papers, but I have not turned them into the hospital. They will go in the transfer bag.

I didn't preregister because frankly it depends on the type of emergency as to where we would go. There are a lot of hospitals around here. Transferring for exhaustion would be different hospital than a fast life and death situation.

It's not such a big deal if you don't. Your midwife will bring your records. I always bring copies of the insurance and do my best to provide that information instead of them asking the mom or the dad.
If it makes you feel better to do it - go for it. It has little downside except the time and trouble and getting on their mailing list.

Thanks guys, I went ahead and put my MW's info and completed the registration!

I did. I packed a hospital bag too. To some that might be too cautious, like I was inviting the transport to happen, but if it DID, I didn't want to be stuck in the hospital and have to make DH bring me a bunch of stuff. Cuz he's not good at knowing what's what!

I think packing a hospital bag makes way more sense than pre-registering! I can give insurance, address, and emergency contact information just as well as you can. I, however, cannot figure out which of your underwear fit and which don't as I'm chucking stuff in a bag. Or which toothbrush is yours and which is dh's.

I did go to a homebirth where the mom (on baby #6) had packed up a laundry basket with the homebirth basics (towels, crock pot, blue pads, homebirth kit) and another one with the baby/her stuff (pads, panties, pajamas, baby clothes, diapers). In case of transfer, she could just grab the basket and go and didn't have to have a suitcase all set up "untouchable" with her favorite stuff.

I have had 2 c-sections and have never pre-registered either time. Wasn't a problem. I also did not even have a bag packed for the hospital. It will all work out either way.
