Any non vaccinating mothers own a day care?

I was thinking of opening an in home day care but I have a concern.

I do not vaccinate my children and I was told by someone that if my child was to get another child sick and the parents found out I do not vaccinate I could be sued. I am also concerned with a parent that does not agree with my choices trying to get me into trouble for not vaccinating.

I watch one boy in my home. I was very clear with them that I don't vaccinate. I figure if I'm up front about it then they can decide then and there if they want to leave their child with me.

Just a scare tactic. Goodness people can make up all kinds of stories can't they??

I don't get it....if "they" vax then what are they worried about your child giving them?? Doesn't their vax work?:

Anyway, all sarcasm aside....I run a home daycare and have now for five years. No problems. Sure, I have the odd parents ask me about my vax rules but I tell them that I don't care. I also tell them that if they take issue with a non-vaxed child being around then this is not the place for them. Besides, in all the interviews I have had i think maybe two parents have ever asked. People just "assume" you must be vaxed.

Go for it. Don't let the scare tactics of a few people hold you back.

I have a day home and an unvaxed baby. I am with an agency, and they asked on my forms if my child was "up to date". She was only three months old at the time, so I just checked "yes". They didn't ask for verification.

I haven't had anyone ask.... but I would LOVE to have some other unvaxed kids. The agency does ask for immunization records from the kids in care, even though there are no legal requirements in our province.

I have never been able to get my head around the "your unvaxed kid will make my vaxed kid sick!" theory. If you think vaccines are that ineffective, why bother getting them in the first place?

As for the suing you thing.... they may not sue you if their kids gets sick, but they could in theory if their child was injured in your home, or while riding in your car. It is probably a good idea to look into some additional liability insurance.... I have some through my agency, and choose not to drive with daycare kiddos - if I did, I would need to get a rider on my car insurance. And then even if your kid did get a VPD, and even if their vaxed kid got it, and even if they did sue you.... you have insurance!!
