So I think my next project is going to be sewing some cotton blankets for our beds...something very simple like large patchwork squares or even just two large pieces of fabric with batting in between and tied. Does anyone have any ideas, pictures of ones you've made etc for some inspiration? I would love to have these be fun and modern looking, yet simple enough that I actually complete them! Thanks!

This book feels good in your hands. The paper is heavyweight, and the illustrations flow perfectly.
Simple Bed Blankets

I made a blanket for my daughter that was really easy to do. I bought a heavier grade of super soft fleece in two complimentary fabrics, and then sewed them together -- wrong sides together -- with about half an inch seam allowance. Then I bought blanket binding (which is wide satin ribbon with a finished edge) and bound it around the edges, using a zigzag stitch. The only tricky thing was the corners, which I mitered.
It was a quick project and the fleece was weighty enough that I didn't need an inner layer, but it would have been a simple matter to include one.

I'm working on learning quilting, but I'm curious, besides fleece, what types of fabric you could use for blankets? What would be the name of wool fabric that would make good blankets? Fleece isn't really an option for me, since I avoid synthetics.
