breastfeeding octuplets on The View

Did anyone else see The View yesterday? On it, they talked about a woman in California who had octuplets and plans to nurse them all. Unfortunately, they used the whole time talking about it to make fun of her. I'm disgusted, and (of course) I'm writing a letter. I would encourage you all to write as well. I'm hoping they will address this on the air, because it was incredibly mean-spirited.

Here's the link to the video:

And here's the link to send a (very) short email:
http://abc.go.com/daytime/theview/ask

And here's their mailing address, if you want to write a longer letter (which I certainly do; 250 characters just isn't going to cut it.)

Have Your Say Today
The View
320 West 66th Street
New York, NY 10023

I'll post my letter once it's done!

Ugh. I HATE that show.

Oh, and it's made the news that they are starting to BOTTLEFEED with formula: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090128/...qd6eZnZgPgcbYF .

That just made me really angry. Ugh.

I think it's a pretty well known fact that the women on the View are anti-breastfeeding. They've gone on anti-breastfeeding rants before, and no amount of letters changes that. Actually, I find the women on the View as anti-women as they come! :

As for breastfeeding/bottlefeeding octuplets...I give her credit for whatever she's doing. I think it's hard enough keeping up with the feeding demands of ONE newborn, let alone 8! :

There is a correction here, they are getting donated breastmilk

That video disgusted me - I couldn't even finish watching it.

Yeah. I was done within the first 17 seconds.

It just helps to remind me why I will never willingly watch an episode of this show from start to finish. If I wanted to listen to four women I had nothing in common with, I'd go out to the mall or a club.

You beat me to it!

I am just so glad they are all healthy and breathing on their own. : And any amount of breastmilk they get is better than none.imo.

I give that mother credit for whatever she is able to do . I know that when I breastfed my ONE baby, she would nurse for like... an hour, and then I'd have an hour break. There aren't enough hours in the day for 8 babies, even with 2 breasts! !!!

I think it is wonderful that she is getting donated breastmilk for her babies.

I think when they were laughing about it, they were forgetting that (or maybe don't know) it is possible to feed the babies exclusively breastmilk even though not all of it may be the mothers (glad to see she is getting donor milk!).

For some reason, they are thinking that if she is going to continue to BF that she is all on her own, which is not the case.

I'm sure it's tough to BF twins much less 3 or more, and I can't see how the human body would be able to sustain that many exclusively, so yes any amount of BMilk they can get is awesome. Personally I think I could exclusively BF twins with a lot of determination and help, but if I had triplets or more I'd be asking for some donor milk.

I can't bear to watch the whole thing. These women are ridiculously uneducated in almost every area they blather on about.
They are so unsupportive and disrespectful of so many women, in so many walks of life.
I can't believe how they IRK me!!:

I cant stand them. WTF "Get some formula, formula is great!"
They pretend to be progressive, feminist types but they bash something that is good and healthy for women and children. OFTEN.
they say get some formula formula is great than they go on about how babies are so expensive and how are they gonna manage. Well breast milk is FREE!!!!!
I had never seen the view it made me want to puke

I'm not sure you'd be able since your baby is older. There was an article in the Jan Journal of the Am Dietetic Assn about banked breast milk and it's composition, and how it is not appropriate for Very Low Birth Weight infants (those who weigh less than 3.3lbs at birth) due to it's percentages of fat and protein, mostly. Probably because this milk is donated by moms who have babies between 6 and 12 months.

That video disgusted me. I'll write them, but they don't care.

Even beyond breastfeeding, the fact that they would go on national television and make fun of and humiliate a new mother days after she gave birth to 8 babies sucks.

Was there anything redeeming (I couldn't watch it all). Like did they offer to send booties or something?

Nope but it did seem like they were trying to encourage to family to go all Gosselin and start begging handouts from formula companies and other such businesses. I was too busy firing off an email to the producers to really pay a ton of attention to what they were saying after awhile.

: ick. I wrote a short little email.

I'm glad that I'm not subjected to that show too often.

It is likely that the donated breastmilk will be remixed, for lack of a better word, to include additional fat and nutrients, just like formula for low-birth weight babies would be.

yes. this.
The way whoopi acted as if she couldn't hold back her laughter, it was as if she was gathering followers to assist her mocking of this mother.
What a freakin' bully!!
