La Bassine?

I've been reading the sticky and the fishy pool threads. Thanks for all the info already. One of our apprentice midwives rents her La Bassine for $35 with a hose (one less thing to buy). Does anyone have any thoughts one way or the other on this particular pool? We don't have a huge hot water heater, so I don't know if it would be better to get a smaller pool like the Sevlor. I don't think I'll want DH to get in, but you never know. TIA.

I bought a La Bassine and it worked fine. The MW actually got in to catch the baby (I was in a weird position and mentally not doing too well so I don't think she trusted me to catch it myself--good call on her part). I didn't feel crowded at all when she got in.

I've used one for my last two births and it worked very well. I liked it! It wasn't too hard to keep the water warm.

I loved mine. I didn't know about dh either, but I actually needed him to get in to rub my back and do the hip squeeze which got me through transition. If I'd had a smaller pool I would have been upset he couldn't be in there with me!

The Sevylor isn't any smaller volume--it holds just as many gallons, if not more, than La Bassine. The Sevylor isn't as deep but since it's round, the overall volume is the same. At that price I'd definitely go with La Bassine!

I used a La Bassine and loved it. My mw had it on hand, and I ordered a plastic liner (felt weird about giving birth in there after others had, ya know?) and it was great. Much nicer than my 3 land births before!

Loved my La Bassine. The water stayed plenty warm for several hours and I loved how soft the bottom was and how firm but comfortable the side was. Great investment!

Loved mine as well. We had a small water heater and ended up having to heat some water on the stove and add it to the pool to get it up to the temp I wanted, but that wasn't a big problem.

I used a La Bassine for my fifth baby (first waterbirth) and cannot say enough good things about it!

Thank you! I'm so glad to hear the great reviews. That seals the deal for me, we'll definitely rent from our apprentice. Plus it feels less wasteful than buying one, even inexpensively, that i know would eventually get destroyed by the kids or sit in storage.

Another for the La Bassine. I used the one my MW office had for my HB this past May and I loved it. There was plenty of room for DH and I as he had to get in toward the end due to physical exhaustion on my part. And DH isn't a small guy . . . 6 ft and 220lbs.

And yet another thumbsup from me. This is the pool that I rent out to clients, and I'm about to purchase another one, as it really holds up, holds its heat, is comfortable for the mama, has handles inside to grab onto for pushing if she wants, doesn't let water spill over the sides as easiily as a fishie pool, etc.

i used the gentle birth pool for my son's birth and loved it. i could really lean on the sides and not worry about them giving in or warping, etc. it was a hard sided pool. with this one, since it is inflatable, do you have to be careful not to put too much weight on the sides? (l leaned on the side in hand/knees position to push and i am sure i was not exactly gentle on the pool!)

any thoughts from those of you who have used the la bassine on this issue?

I spent hours leaning against the side of my la bassine during labour (and I'm fat so it was quite a bit of weight on the side) and it held up perfectly - no give or warp or anything. My support people were leaning on it off and on as well.
