Two week trip coming up, concerned about weaning

My DS is almost 4, nursing is still going strong. He can handle being away form me all day, he's done one night away at grandmas, he's pretty easygoing about being babysat, but....

I live in Europe and my parents are in the States. My mom is currently in the hospital getting ready for a bone marrow transplant and I would like to go visit her. We don't have enough money to travel all three of us (air fare+hotel) and DH wouldn't be able to take 2 weeks of vacation at this point.

I will be traveling alone, I will be gone for about 2 weeks. I am really concerned that DS would wean, I would be really sad if that happened.

Anyone BTDT? My supply has never been great, had a rocky start with breastfeeding and I was never able to pump more than an ounce. Should I pump or express to maintain a supply of just go with the flow?

This is just something we're going to have to get through, but I would really love it if we could continue our nursing relationship when I get back.

I just experienced this with my daughter, although she is younger than your son and I was gone less time! We went away for a week and I nursed her the night before we left. She was fine while I was gone and picked it right back up when I got home. She went without about 8-9 days and didn't have a problem at all. I never pumped on my trip although I had to manually express a little by about day 2. It wasn't painful, but I was fuller than normal.

She is nursing as much as she did before the trip. Hope that helps!

I might try to pump at least once a day or so, to be safe.
You could always drink the milk yourself.

Thanks, Mamas. I'll have to just go with the flow. Mom's transplant is tomorrow, I'm trying to keep positive.
