I have about some money saved up (not including retirement or kids college funds). Where's the best place to keep it today? I'd like to keep some in a 'safe' place, but I also feel comfortable having some of it earn some good interest. What's the best bet? Stocks are low - is now a good time to put some of it into a mutual fund? So far I've kept some of it in some high-risk funds, and I'm feeling uncertain about staying the course. I know that investing isn't for the faint at heart, and I've held steady so far, but I suddenly find myself getting cold feet. When stocks fell last January, I didn't panic. When stocks fell in September, I didn't panic. Why is it suddenly hitting me now?

I'm inclined to invest some new money (not selling anything, just using income to do this) in a bond index fund to balance my portfolio.

Advice and encouragement, please
