What I am wondering is if it is a budgeted item does that count for no spending? I am a bit confused with all the terms.

1st: Nothing!
2nd: Nothing!

I had expected to have to pay for DS's allergy test but he was too scared so we ended up not completing it. I didn't get billed unless they send the bill later. I have no idea. DS did get an ice cream out of his change after so I don't include that. I almost caved to eat out but I realized it wasn't Toonie Tuesday (KFC for $2-something) so I'm making pizza for supper.

I tried to post this earlier but somehow failed.

a. I'm not a mother yet, mostly because of our financial situation. I'm a substitute teacher trying to get a full time teaching job and df, who really hates his job, will have his contract expire in September at which point we're not really sure if we'll be able to keep our house depending on whether or not we both get jobs.

b. My goals are to pay down the debt I have (cc and student loans) so we can start building up a safety cushion. Plus we'd like to start saving for our wedding next year. For this month my goals are to pay off my provincial loan, apply for interest relief on my federal loan and pay off some more of my cc and not add any more to it.

c. Last month I managed to only spend $68 total. This month I'm aiming for $80 with the one exception being a sewing machine table I want to buy as a reward for spending less than $70 last month. I'm looking at a few on kijiji. I'm going to track my no-spend days and how much money I have spent and stick to my budget. I'm also going to take cash out of my account for spending money rather than using my debit cart all the time.

This is for you to decide. We have no hard and fast rules on this thread...you set the rules and you decide what you want to count as spend vs. no-spend.

I only record frivolous purchases here...groceries, water bill, trash pickup, preschool tuition -- for my family those are necessities and we budget ahead for them and I don't count them.

But some MDCers on this thread record every dime that leaves their hands.

You record whatever will help you spend the least amount of money.

Goals 20/28 No Spend Days
14/28 No Drive Days
20/28 Decluttering/Organizing Days/30 minutes (1/20)
8/28 Library Days (1/8)
4 books
10/28 knit at least 30 minutes

im still trying to figure all of this out. i dont understand some of the goals. i guess ill learn as i go unless someone can direct me to a thread where this is explained elsewhere.
If you have a goal of 20 days no spending, you would write it like this:

0/20 No Spend

Then each day that you no-spend, the first number goes up. The second number is your goal.

So your goals will look like this:

0/20 No Spend Days
0/14 No Drive Days
0/20 Decluttering/Organizing Days/30 minutes (1/20)
0/8 Library Days (1/8)
0/4 books
0/10 knit at least 30 minutes

At the beginning of the month, and hopefully you'll be 20/20 by the end

Ok, last month was a total wash for several reasons. First, I am too busy to keep up with every dollar that gets spent right now. I spend 18 hours a day writing my dissertation, there isn't time for much else. Second, we got slammed with several unexpected expenses, like illness and car repair. Luckily I have an emergency fund for that stuff, but it does mess up my "no-spend" tally. So this month I am trying a new strategy. Really, it doesn't matter to me whether or not I have X number of no spend days, instead, I want to keep on target with my household budget. So I am only going to report spending when it is NOT part of my normal budget....and hopefully I'll be able to keep up with it this month.

Goals:
$80/$400 for food, toiletries and supplements
$10/$160 for fuel
$50 for misc. household repairs

2/1: no drive and no spend
2/2: grocery visit and half tank of gas in my car

Please write an introductory message when you decide to join our thread. We would like to know:

a. I'm Kas. I'm 21 years old and due with my first child (a son) the end of April. My DH is currently in Air Force Basic Training...which means I'm in charge of the finances. : So, it's up to me to ensure that the bills get paid and that the money gets saved...

b. We want to begin following Dave Ramsey's plan. So, first goal is to save up $1000...However, our car is really on its last legs and I'll need to get a new one soon.

c. I'm going to plug Springpad on this. They have an option to keep track of receipts. I'm going to keep track of EVERY SINGLE RECEIPT this month on two separate "springpads" (one for necessary and one for frivolous spending) I'm also going to keep these hardcopies in a folder for the month. Maybe writing things down will help me stay accountable.

Right now we have $710 in necessary bills each month (not including gas money)

Goals: Not blow all of my DH's hard earned money I know, specific of me right?

= no spend
= necessary
: = frivolous

I'm in for February.

I'm Heather. DH and I are working on paying off debt right now so this is a perfect way to help. My plan is to just stay home more often, have a menu so no urges to eat out, and be honest with myself.

Here are my goals for the month.

$400 grocery budget
$60 gas budget
10 no spending days
$100 entertainment
