once is not enough

Thread Starter
I was thinking about how my reading tends to go in circles. I have books (or series) that I always go back to, once every few years. For me, I cycle through:

Stephen King's Dark Tower series
Hobbit+Lord of the Rings
Gregory Macguire books (Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister, Wicked, etc)
My Friend Flicka, Thunderhead, Green Grass of Wyoming (my kid's book fix)
Watership Down
Harry Potter books (although since I finished the series, I haven't felt the need to return)

So how about you?

Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow-Peter Hoeg

I like to read this once a year at least.

I go through The Dark Tower series every few years too! I also do Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series, then there's a Robin McKinley book called "Beauty" that I read every couple of years. "To Kill a Mockingbird" is probably every 2 or 3 years too.

Mercedes Lackey.

I used to re-read Piers Anthony's Incarnations & Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders a lot, too, but I haven't been able to really get into either of them for a couple years.

I read The Secret Garden every spring. I always do it all in one sitting with the windows open. :

Actually, I do a lot of re-reading. I'm a fast reader and tend to run out of material between weekly trips to the library, but I'm also a book addict have have to be reading something. Hence, there are a lot of books that I've read countless times.

I re-read the Anne of Green Gables series and Pride and Prejudice every year. And every few years or so I re-read Jane Eyre.

As I just mentioned in the thread on Emma, there was a time (haven't done it in a while) when I was reading all six Jane Austen novels EACH MONTH! Yes, I'm obsessed!:

Other ones I read at least once a year:

All the Little House books
A Christmas Carol, Bleak House, David Copperfield, The Pickwick Papers - Charles Dickens
Wives and Daughters - Elizabeth Gaskell
Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte
Little Women - Louisa May Alcott
The Taming of the Shrew - William Shakespeare
The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings - JRR Tolkein

Lots of non-fiction stuff, too.

I re-read Mercedes Lackey books quite a bit, especially The Last Herald-Mage, the trilogy about Talia (Arrows books - can't remember what the trilogy is called) and two compilations about Tarma and Kethry. I don't know why I re-read them, though. I find myself really annoyed by so many things about her writing.

I used to re-read Robert Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land about every three years (first read it at 11), but it's been a while since I read it. I read a lot of his other books when I'm in the mood for something quick and easy. I don't think he wrote anything that I haven't read at least 5 or 6 times.

I still occasionally re-read some of Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders books and a couple of the ones in the Rowan series. I don't own that many, though.

I re-read David Eddings books a lot, especially The Belgariad. They're quick and easy and kind of like mental candy.

Oh - how could I forget? DH introduced me to the Discworld (Terry Pratchett) back in 2000 or 2001. I think I've read them all at least 3 or 4 times since then. I find them light, easy reading, and they make me laugh...but they also...give me a different way of looking at things. They're great.

I've re-read Raymond Feist's Riftwar Saga, and the Daughter of the Empire books he wrote with Janny Wurtz on multiple occasions. They may be my favourite fantasy ever...maybe...

I re-read Lord of the Rings occasionally, but I've only read it 3 or 4 times total.

I'm sure there are others, but I can't think what. Oh - I re-read Harry Potter after finishing book 7. I'm currently re-reading them again, but this time is out loud, for dd. I'll probably read them at least once more, because there are so many holes and inconsistencies and I get a sick enjoyment out of picking them apart...
