Will he be a righty or a lefty?

Do you think there's any way to make this determination this early on? DS just turned 3. He does most everything with his left hand - eats, holds his cup, holds a baseball bat, golf club, throws the ball, but he colors and draws with his right. My BIL is like this, though. He'll eat left, but hit the ball right-handed.

My girls both favored a hand early on. Dd1 is totally right-handed and dd2 is totally left-handed. Pretty much since they started holding things and drawing, etc.

My youngest has been a righty since day one. My oldest did not pick a hand until he was in kindergarten and even then he went back and forth for a while. I will admit that because he was using both hands interchangeably we encouraged the right hand for writing. I am the same way, I go back and forth depending on what I am doing.

One of mine was indeterminate until close to 5, but seemed maybe left handed. Now he is left handed, and I've encouraged him to make it his dominate hand across the board, not like I make him, but I might say, "Woudl that be easier with the other hand?"

The other two was so completely right handed even as babies; DD1 even worried me a bit because she did not always seem to know that she had another hand available. She still will reach across her body to use her right hand. DD2 has preferred her right all along, but not quite to the same extent.

Oh, it's absolutely possible to make a determination at this age, but it doesn't sound like your little one has done so yet.

I'm a lefty, so I really hoped at least one of my daughters would be, but it's not so (I do hold out some vague hope for Esther). I used to put crayons by DD's left hand in hopes she'd be prompted to be a southpaw, but to a child they'd either grab it with their right hand or grab it with their left & switch to the right.
