I ruined my diaper bag, cell phone and ipod

AAAAUUUUUGGGGGG!!!!!

I went out this morning to meet some friends for breakfast. Because I'm TRYING to be frugal, I stopped by McDonalds to pick up their free latte that they offer in our area on Fridays.

I poured it into my metal coffee thermos. Stuck it in my diaper bag and went to breakfast.

After breakfast I stopped by Goodwill to drop some items off. I placed the diaper bag in the carseat - grabbed the kiddo and went inside.

After I was done, I moved the diaper bag, put the kiddo back in the carseat and came home.

Just put him down for a nap. His pants are wet. I was surprised because he doesn't usually wet through his diaper.

I sniff - it's not pee. It's coffee.

I go outside to retrieve the diaper bag that is still sitting in the car.
My coffee has spilled all over the bottom of the bag. My very. expensive. Fluerville. Bag. I reach inside. My ipod and cell phone are swimming in free Latte from McDonalds.

Those two items are now drying out - (not working currently.)

My bag has coffee that's seeped between the fabric and the vinyl outer layer (which, ironically is there to make spills clean up faster.)

So - I call Fluerville. They don't reccomend washing the bag in the washing machine. Except there is no other way to get at the fabric. They offer me a 50% off coupon on my next purchase - which is actually very generous - especially considering the bag is a year old.

I decide to wash the bag anyhow and hope for the best.

I think I'm going to air dry it in the shower and then use my hair dryer to make sure I don't have moisture still stuck between the vinyl and fabric.

My cell and ipod are propped upside down and dripping coffee out of them.

Free Coffee? Not exactly. More like $750 bucks down the tubes.

Oh no! I feel for you completely. That would make me crazy. I hope the bag comes out OK, at least.

I am so sorry!

I'm not sure this would work since your phone and iPod were in the liquid for so long, but my husband dropped his iPod in a bowl of water while he was at work (he's a chef) and it didn't die. He got it out of the water immediately, dried it off as much as he could, turned it off (you don't want to turn it on because water and electrical activity don't mix), and then put it in a ziplock bag filled with uncooked rice. The rice will draw all the moisture out of the device. He left it in the rice for a week and then tried to turn it on, and to our surprise it worked!

It's worth a try.

Def let them dry out for as long as you can. Just resist the urge to turn them on and like a pp said, in like a week they just might work.

Good luck and so sorry for the mishap. That sucks!

How awful! I second the ziploc bag and rice suggestion.

Conversely, sometimes Apple is also incredibly nice and will give you a discount as well. I've had that happen. Over the holidays, my partner's brother's kids spilled soda all over my Apple laptop. It died a painful death. When I called Apple, they offered me a discount towards my next purchase. Which earned them loads of bonus points from me as they didn't have to do anything consider the fault was not theirs.

Oh that stinks! Sorry mama!

I was going to also suggest burying them in a bowl of uncooked rice... I don't know if it works or not but I read a magazine article about it once. Might be worth a try?

I am so sorry. My cell phone went swimming in a baby pool. I used the vacuum over the keys to suck the water out then stored in rice for a couple of days. The big thing is do not turn it on it will short out if it is wet still. Good luck!

I'd call apple and see if they have any suggestions. Same with your phone manufacturer. Perhaps there's a way to save them. Crossing fingers for you.

thanks mamas.

I took the battery out of my cell phone and will leave it to dry for a few days.

My ipod is sitting in a baggy full of rice - we'll see about that one.

Diaper bag is in the wash - keeping my fingers crossed.

The rice trick is awesome- I used it on a cell phone a few weeks ago, and yay! it worked!!! Hopefully your stuff w/ dry out/clean up!

GL!

I would be so upset - that sucks! I have put a cell phone through the washing machine - it was soaked. I took the battery out and left it open for several days and it worked once I turned it on. Not sure if the stickiness in the lattee will matter, but there's still hope!

Let me know if you don't use that 50% off coupon.

I'm so sorry mama. I'd be so pissed. McD's coffee is crap to begin with, and that just makes it even worse!!! Ugh. I'm angry for you. I hope it all dries out and is okay!

Ugh - that's awful. I'm so sorry.

oh no!
I'd be pi$$ed at the thermos maker...was it a thermos brand? Has it ever leaked before? I never trust those stupid things.....

Definitely call your cell phone carrier. I recently lost my cell phone but I was able to get an awesome new one for not too much by agreeing to stick with the service. I could have got a free one but I went for an upgrade.

oh that really sucks

If it helps, I think Fleurville is having a seconds sale starting Monday...although 50% off, that's a fantastic coupon!

No...I'm not sure of the brand - but it's not thermos. When I told the hubby he said, "Oh...that thermos isn't leak proof." No $h^T.

I saw they were going to have a seconds sale - it's really tempting. I think my diaper bag is salvageable. It's air drying in the bath tub right now and doesn't look too bad. Although that new striped pattern that's coming out in February is making me drool. And...I wonder if I could use my 50% with the seconds sale? I should ask.

Decisions, decisions.

As for the phone....I can scroll down, but not up. I can receive calls but can't initiate them. I can't dial the numbers 2, 6, and 9.

This is a good idea - unless, of course, you hate your cell service and were just waiting for it to run out.

So sorry!! Hope it dries out and works for you!

Don't give up on it yet. My phone took a swim a couple months ago and it did similar, weird keys and functions working at random until a week or so later when it finally dried out completely I guess.

Sorry about your stuff. I would be so ticked.
