My son adopted a down throw blanket for his bed. I would like to make a duvet cover for it out of a curtain panel.
The blanket is 48" x 58"
His mattress is 63" x 27.5"
The curtain panel is 44" x 63"
The curtain panel has two layers of fabric sewn together at the edges, a patterned side and a solid blue side.
Obviously the blanket is a lot wider than the curtain panel but I would be fine with cutting part of it off because it really is too wide for the bed.
Do you think I can just resew one edge of the blanket, cut off the top of the curtain panel (where the part for the curtain rod is) and make some button holes?
Does this make sense?
I am a relatively inexperienced sewer but have made a dress from a pattern on a sewing machine with a little help.
To me the most difficult part seems like it would be the button holes and cutting the blanket open (because of the down in it). If I sew a new seam before I cut it, I shouldn't get down everywhere right?
