Writing an article about circumcision, could use some help...

Hey

I'm writing an article for a NZ parenting magazine on the general topic of 'babies and bodily integrity', which is mostly about circ but also touches on a number of topics such as intersexuality, ear piercing and the like.

I was hoping to get a bit of help with some research. I've Googled till my eyes were numb, but I haven't been able to find this specific information:

- Have there been any cases (anywhere in the world) of a man suing his parents/doctor/the medical establishment because of circ? Not a botched circ, or a circ resulting in particular complications; just circ. If so, did he win? (Links would be great).

- I need a short quote from a circed man about how he feels about his circ, specifically related to his parents' allowing/asking for it. Is there a site somewhere with quotes for circed men? I've found a few, but nothing exactly suitable.

- Do any of you circ experts want to take a look at my article? It's not in finished form yet, but I'd welcome a read-through for fact-checking and general tone. It's for a fairly mainstream magazine so I don't want to sound too 'out there', but I also don't want to come across as wishy-washy. PM me if you're interested. Obviously the article is commissioned for the magazine, so can't be disseminated or published online or off.

Thanks! It's scary writing about topics I care about - I did an article on cosleeping for the same magazine recently and was terrified I was going to misrepresent the position or get my facts wrong. And now I'm biting my nails again over this one.

I think if you search around this site, you will find what you are looking for:

Other good sites perhaps:

You're in New Zealand? You'll want to contact Hugh Young, he is the webmaster of http://www.circumstitions.com/ he'll be able to answer many of your questions. If you can't find his email address on the website PM me and I'll forward it to you.

Either contact our member Dave2Ga with a PM here, he has handled some cases including the one in this youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCT6YkDlXnQ

Yes, please send it to me. But you're in New Zealand right? Why is the magazine interested?

I find this to be a helpful site. Near the bottom are some of the cases of men suing their doctors.
Also, this site should be useful to you: http://www.arclaw.org/

I would be happy to review and comment on the article in draft form.

Thanks for the comments and help, guys! I just got off the phone with my editor, who tells me that they've changed the production schedule so I now have another month before deadline. She also increased my word count to 2500 - thank goodness! I'm rewriting the article for the fifth time now with quite a different focus, losing some of the medical info in favour of focussing more on the ethics/human rights angle. I'm sad to lose some of my 'hard data', but as the NZ reasons for circ seem to be very much social rather than medical it's probably just as well. I get to make up a 'further reading' list too, so I'll include the circumstitions site and so on.

I contacted Hugh and he's been very helpful, so thanks for the heads-up!

Awesome, let us know when it's ready. I'd sure like to see the revision.

I hope you will be able to publish it in the U.S. as well. Best of luck
