What are bias strips?

Hi all,

I'm very new to sewing (made some felt food, simple apron, baby things) and I'm trying to sew an apron. I found a cute pattern from www.bhg.com but in the directions, it says to cut bias strips. What are they? Do you have to cut the material on the diagonal? The strips are for the ruffle and the piping.

thanks!

yes, you cut the fabric on a 45 degree angle.

Here's a link for a tutorial on making bias tape.

You can also buy premade bias at any fabric store.

Good luck!
