October '08 Mommies ~ Lovin February - Page 3

Good grief mamas! I'm gone for a day and you have 2 new pages in a completely new thread?! I have a lot of catching up to do. I'll reply to everyone after I get a chance to read up and multi-quote.

AAM: We got home from the wedding today. It was a long day yesterday. Ally got a few catnaps and one 1 hour nap but no long nap. She was DONE by the time we left the reception at about 9pm. She went right to sleep when we got back to the hotel. She's a much happier baby today. Everyone commented on how beautiful and how well-behaved she is though! I thought she was being a pill. Haha! I guess she's just such a good baby all the time that the fussing she did yesterday seemed like a normal baby to everyone else and like a grouchy Ally Rae to me. She got tired of being passed around and the constant commotion. I did a pretty good job of taking her back when she cued me she was ready for Mommy! That's a big deal for me since I've had a hard time taking her away from people when she's fussing. Alright, off to catch up on my reading and I'll be back after our grocery shopping.

I hope you all had a great weekend!

Glad you had a good time, Tara. I know what you mean when you talk about people thinking your baby is being so good when you think she is being grouchy. Everyone comments on how good Calli is all the time too and all the while I am thinking "geez is she ever grouchy today" lol.

She freaked the other night at DH hockey game. My friend sat down and started talking to her and she lost it. I could not calm her down. Then she started looking around like "where the heck am I" and freaked out even more. She goes to DH's hockey games all the time but we were in a different town in a different facility. I felt bad for her, my poor girl

How big are your little ones? Jack was at the DR at 3 months he was 16lbs 26 1/2 inches.
ally rae is almost 4mo and about 12 lbs and 24.5" long. still a little squirt! is she the smallest of our babes?! i don't recall seeing any others that small. she's def getting bigger and has really filled out (big cheeks and rolly legs finally) but she's just petite i guess. she's in 0-3mo still and some 3mo.

I was just wondering if anyone is NOT breastfeeding anymore? I wanted to breastfeed Calli until she weaned herself but things don't always turn out as you want I guess. My milk dried up and I am kind of feeling alone, like I am the only one not breastfeeding.....which may very well be. She started refusing to breastfeed during the day. Would. Not. Do. It. She would latch and then pull and tug and wiggle her head soooo badly. It was REALLY REALLY painful. I tried and tried to feed her during the day but she just wouldn't. She was fine nursing at night though. But then she started sleeping longer stretches. I noticed I was drying up so I frantically tried to get my supply back. I was nursing her as often as she would nurse and pumping a LOT!! Like every couple of hours but nothing worked. I feel sad about it. I feel like I let her down. I feel like she is not going to get the best start in life anymore. I know you girls won't critisize me. Thank you for that. I just needed to vent to you guys and see if I am not alone in not breastfeeding anymore.

Anyways, sounds like everyones babies are growing like weeds!!! Calli is probably 12 lbs now. Not sure how long she is though.

Oooh we got a Bumbo from my Aunt and Uncle over the weekend. I have been wanting one for a long time and couldn't get my hands on one. Well my Aunt saw that I was wanting one for Calli and bought one at Toys 'R Us on her way through Calgary. Calli LOVES it!!!
s s s mama! you did the very best you could and were awesome trying to get your supply to pick up when you noticed it slipping! have you contacted a LC or a LLL leader? maybe they could help you? i know it's possible to get it increased even if it's pretty well gone.

aww! i'm so sorry she had a rough time! it's the worst when you know why they're upset but can't change the circumstances! to calli!

aam some more: pics! i got my zolo today! we got the feet in tummy to tummy figured out but ally really prefers her legs out so she can stretch and kick. i don't understand the written instructions so i'm going to have to watch the dvd. i need to figure out bf'ing in it too since ally doesn't tolerate a cradle carry.

zolo rs #1

zolo rs #2

rae, i may be calling you this week to get some help getting comfortable with the rs!

Major It's not easy loosing a breastfeeding relationship. I know from personal expeience with my first. While she never got a drop of formula, (I EP'd for 15 months) we never nursed. I was so sad and even a little depressed about it. We made multiple mistakes in those first few days and weeks that ruined it. There was pretty much no going back. Should you have another one, I'm confident you'll be able to nurse them. You'll have insight on what went wrong this time and will be able to start out strong and remain that way

I so don't want to work tomorrow. It will be my first week back full-time and it's now in a new position. My old position as resource nurse for the unit has been absolved and I'm going to be a regular floor RN 3 days a week I'm super bummed out about it.

Hazel also has a nasty cold and will be sleeping with us tonight. She didn't nurse much towards the latter part of the day and I think it might be due to her nasal congestion. She'd latch and suck then sputter. So very sad.

Wow... Aren't I a Debbie Downer? I should probably stop....

Have a great Monday ladies

Oh Tara!!! That Zolo is gorgeous. The baby ain't bad either
post #45 of 331
Oh my Tara!: Don't you and Ally look pretty as punch together in the Zolo?
I love it on you!
Ally is such a little Mini-Tara...cuuuute.
ps- re. being the smallest in the ddc, I am thinking it would be Iris? Isn't she still under 11 pounds, that lil peanut?

Trimester: for having the milk dry up. Could it be medication or diet? Can you see a LC? Could it be related to ciggie smoke? Just trying to think of the possibilities. I myself had to take a Claritin tonight and am stressing about it drying my milk. Its just right now, we have the Santa Ana winds and I have had the worst sinus head all day. I took some tylenol, did a neti pot and finally took a vicodin after supper then a bubble bath...made me feel dizzy but still with a bad headache. Just now, I resorted to the Claritin. I figure I need the relief.
I will overdo it with fluids to compensate.

Orchide- at some point on a thread you mentioned that you'd love for all of us to meet IRL some time, do yoga together.... I will most definitely contact you when I am in your area next (although I have no current plans.) as I do go there occassionally.

Our DDC isn't in the archives yet! I've not been on for a couple of days (or several pages of this post) and wanted to see what was going on with our DDC thread, when it closed, etc., and can't find it. Ah well, I'm sure it'll be up soon.
Kelli: I am answering you from the last thread.
I would LOVE to meet you so please keep it in mind!
Re. our DDC being in the archives, its there but in the wrong place.
I didn't see it at first. Its not at the bottom but in the middle of 2006 I think.

I had a neat day!
My one bestie texted me at 4 am last night to say her water broke.
She had a c-section at 10 am due to her baby girl being breech.
I am so excited b/c we look forward to her baby and Jasper being little pals.
My DH and I went on a 2 mile or so hike- it was gorgeous here today- and I wore Jaspie in the Earthy Rainbow wrap...
hike #1
hike #2

He wore his new bamboo onesie we got from Lucky Child for half off...
mossy green
and really seemed to love being out in nature. He was laughing his head off for much of the time
happy babe

Then after I fed him, Matt offered to tote him back home in the wrap which I love especially since he liked the wrap more than the Ergo so maybe he will be amenable down the road to me purchasing more...
Daddy wrap
Daddy wrap #2

We got home and my pal who had the baby girl asked us to come and visit at the hospital.
The baby girl (who they haven't officially named yet but I know her name is Wilhemina to be called Mina) is so precious with sooooo much dark hair.
I cried a little when I saw her, being the sap I am.

Oh ladies...if you want a Fleurville diaper bag for cheap, they have a seconds sale that starts today with bags normally $165 going for as low as $45. I think I am gonna splurge and get one b/c my two Skip Hops aren't big enough for cloth dipes which are fluffier than I anticipated plus I need something pretty.
A gal in my M&M yoga class has a Fleurville and I always catch myself gazing at it.

I sold a few diapers over on Diaper Swappers and was able to score some goodies in return...got Jasper 2 Lana Care wool covers (one is regular and the other a nighttime one), an Aristocrat wool cover, a super cute WAHMie blue striped bamboo interior diaper plus 2 Kozy merino wool soakers.
That site is so dangerous for me. I see so many cute diapers and covers.

Jenn: so sorry about your position change at the hospital. That sucks.
On a positive note, congrats on Hazel rolling over!

Ah well, I feel my Claritin is finally kicking in...off to bed now.
soooo y'all are amazing! Three pages to read in 2 days., but I'm all caught up. DD is 12 lbs, I don't know how long. She still fits into some newborn stuff (like three things) and 0-3 or 3mths even work well. She was too small for alot of stuff, including some homemade diapers (not by me, my mom is our dealer , but now has outgrown a fair amount of clothing.

OrchideZ: Love the daddy wrap pics! DP has expressed a slight interest but doesn't like the moby (He won't try it, he thinks it's "too complicated" or something... I know, I don't get it either lol) and my maya wrap is too small for him. We'll find something, I guess. And you reminded me that i should probably use my neti tomorrow to help clear me up! if only there was one for babies, lol.

Trimester: : I'm sorry, I don't understand but I can imagine that is incredibly painful. I'm sure you did everything you could, and please don't stress yourself out over it. If you didn't see an LC, tho., it's worth a try.

Farmerjess: ow. I haven't had that yet (hopefully not ever, right?) but I hear it's no fun. Hope it goes away fast.

Well samara is asleep so I too shall follow suit!
Tara: Love the Zolo. So pretty and it looks so comfy. I have a ring sling from Momo Designs (a Canadian Company) and I love it and can’t live without it. Ally is just too cute in her baby Gap gear. Don’t even get me started on Baby Gap...the clothes are just so cute.

TrimesterDoula: ***HUGS*** I too lost a BF relationship with my oldest (my milk dried up to to hitting the second trimester of pregnancy with my second) and it was very painful.

MamaNurse: Everyone is allowed to be a Debbe Downer every once in a while and that is what we are here for. I hope that Hazel feels better soon. It’s no fun when they get sick.

OrchideZ: Jasper is such a cutie! Great pictures from the hike. It’s so refreshing for me to see outdoor pictures that don’t involve a lot of snow. I’m really getting sick of snow!

AAM: Charlotte hit a new milestone last night. She REALLY discovered her voice and decided that she loves to scream It was a happy scream but still not fun to hear at 1 am. The good thing though is that since she was happy in her crib I didn’t go get her and she put herself back to sleep! YAY! I think I’m going to have another great little sleeper on my hands.

My MIL is showing up today to spend a few days and I’m looking forward to having a bit of help around the house. Only 23 more days until DH is home...it seems like forever! I really miss him But I am happy with his career choice because it allows me to stay at home with our babies!
Jenn, I hope your new position turns out better than you anticipate! s to little Hazel for her congestion.

OrchideZ, be careful increasing your water too much with trying to compensate for the Claritin. My LLL leader mentioned that at our last meeting as something that can actually cause a decrease in supply. I didn't get a chance to ask her to elaborate but she said to always just drink to thirst.

Orion, sooooo cute that Charlotte has found her yelling voice! I love it when Ally does that! She's SO vocal!

AAM: I remembered what else I wanted to say yesterday! Ally Rae is officially a thumb sucker. : I'm not thrilled and every time she puts it in to suck I pull it out. I'm such a mean Mommy. I just really don't want her to suck! I have no idea if I'm even doing it right to try and break the habit before it starts but I'm trying. I will say it's totally cute. She purposefully puts her thumb in her mouth and hooks her first finger over her nose.

Well, Ally woke up when DH left for work this morning (kissed her goodbye and she woke up) and didn't go back to sleep. : I sure hope this isn't an indication of how our day will go. I know her schedule is all kinds of messed up after our busy weekend so I'm thinking that's the culprit and she'll get back to her norm in a couple days. :

I love my new Zolo! It's so soft and pretty! Ally was such a good sport when I was trying to figure it all out and didn't get frustrated until I left her in it with her feet in also for a bit. I'm excited for date night so I can use that and not "ruin" my look when I'm kinda dressed up.

Speaking of loud talking babies, I've got a baby girl hollaring at me. Gonna give her a bath and see if that will calm her down so she'll take a nap. I wanna lay down too! She normally sleeps until at least 9:30 and she was wide awake at 7:15. Ugh. Have a great morning mamas!
Yup, I think Iris is one of our smallest DDC babes, coming in at just over 10 lbs at her wbv last week. Although, I'm starting to doubt how accurate that is...when I weighed her on a different scale she was just under 12lbs and that was about a week ago. Dh also made a comment that he thought she was heavier than 10 lbs. Who knows. I do know that she's bright, alert, and a loud little thing! Such a chatterbox!

Viv OMG...Jaspie is such a little sweet! I think everytime I see him he gets more cute! Is that even possible? Sounds like you had fun on your hike. I can't wait for it to get warm here so we can be out more. I'm really looking forward to camping in the spring! Congrats to your bff on her babe!!

Tara is right...you can get too much water while nursing. It has to do with the dilution of potassium and its effect on milk production. Increasing fluids is fine, just not in excess.

OMG, I Fleurville bags! I have this Fleurville Sling Tote in an orange and teal print. Its awesome. I wish I had gotten one a bit bigger but I still really dig it!

Don't take this the wrong way, but I wouldn't be mad about her sucking her thumb! I would let her. You don't do paci's, right? Little girl wants to suck! She's learning to self soothe. It's either her thumb or your bewb. She's learning a bit of independence and comfort!

I also love that Zolo! I'm soooo jealous of all you bw'ing mamas! There does need to be a green with envy smilie! Maybe with my next baby I'll push bw'ing more. You live and learn.

AAUs - Well, Nora got me up at 7 this morning, so much for sleeping in a little on my day off, lol. She's been good so far this morning, though, only puking on me once so far! She's having fun in her jumper right now.

Jenn - So sorry work is blowing for you and your little bean is sicko. I'm sure things will work out for the best at work. Though I know how you feel.

Viv - Those photos are so wonderful! Jasper is so cute!

Jaclyn - I'm so sorry about your nursing relationship. I know there are/were quite a few mamas on our DDC who weren't bf'ing - Amamaagain was one of them IIRC. Maybe pm her? I haven't seen her in awhile...

Regardless, I think no less of you and I know nobody else here does either. You are a great mama, and a fabulous woman. I do have more to say but I'm not sure if I'll get flamed for it so I'll pm you or something.

Why discourage it? It's a diificult thing to keep them from doing and is a part of normal development when a paci isn't introduced. I was a thumb sucker and my mom went crazy trying to prevent me from doing it and eventually trying to get me to quit when I was 4. With my youngest sibling, she introduced a paci early on since it's something she had control over to take away. If you truly don't want her to do it then maybe post to see what others think and have done.

If you haven't guessed, I'm off work until 11. Staffing called while I was in the shower and cancelled me the first 4 hours.:
Tara, love the pics of you and Ally in the Zolo!

OrchideZ, your pictures are amazing, I love the scenery... love the wrap, and seeing your DH wear it...

Jaclyn, just hugs to you on the breastfeeding thing.

So, my girly is just super short. I measured her today to be sure but she's still at 23 inches... which is why her 11 1/2 lbs looks like a normal chunky baby.

Pictures!
DH and DS trying to look like punks.. I think they did a pretty good job - I now have an image of what DS is going to look like as a sulky teenager.

And Ellie helping me with the laundry.
^Oh my goodness...Ellie is so stinkin' cute! So she's petite like Iris too, huh?
Ellie is so cute! She is sitting up so well on her own! :

I got so much done today, I am proud. Not only did I successfully wear Nora in the Moby all morning, she slept in there for 45 min while I folded the whites and made myself lunch! I just might turn into a bw'ing mama if this good attitude towards it keeps up!

I also cleaned out my drawers of maternity clothes and clothes I'll never wear again (too small) and put away the laundry. I cleaned off my dresser, pledged it, and windexed the mirror. Now I'm cutting tags off 9 month outfits and I'm about to throw Nora's duds in the wash.

I feel accomplished! Now, if only I had another 4-5 hours to clean the dining room and kitchen!
Carrie, don't make the same mistake I did the first time around - I thought I would never fit into my pp small clothes so I gave them all away. 6 months later I had to buy a new wardrobe because I had gotten rid of anything that would fit me. This time I plan to keep ALL of my pre-pg clothes, even my skinny mini clothes, until we're down to nursing only 2 - 3 times a day, because I kept losing weight until DS was 18 months old.

Also, wtg on the Moby use!

Oh Viv, it stinks you live across the country because we're like soul-sisters when it comes to the things we like for our kids Par Example:

I love carrying L.O. in the Girasol Big Sur - he loves it too. I just got a steeply discounted babyhawk from thenatureschild.com that I am excited to try out. I also got the babywearing belt to use with the Mei Tais because L.O. is getting up toward 20 pounds and with the belt, the waist straps won't dig into me.

Here are L.O. and I in our TBW carriers

Big Sur
http://s302.photobucket.com/albums/n...nt=Photo50.jpg

and the Kanga-J
http://s302.photobucket.com/albums/n...nt=Photo51.jpg

I just relanolized all L.O.'s wool covers this morning. We have an Aristocrats wool soaker, two Disana covers (love 'em), three Swaddlebees Merino Snap covers and an Etsy WAHM-made cover and pair of longies. In the meantime, we're using his old Motherease Airflow covers. While they are nice covers, they are just inferior to wool. I want the other covers to hurry up and dry already.

You want another super awesome site?? Green Mountain Diapers. Hoo-boy. Danger, Danger. I'm saving up so I can get a couple of Covered Caboose Wool Diaper covers, the wool changing pad and wet bag from Little Beetles, a couple of Growing Green one-size diapers even though we love our Motherease One Size and Kissaluvs Size 2's (my kid is some kind of giant!!) Oh and the Snugglewool blanket. I am wool-aholic!!

And we love yoga!

Move to Wisconsin!!
Orion: sorry about the 1 am screaming. Maybe Charlotte will be the lead singer of a metal band...but seriously that would drive me bonkers. Not to mention our landlord's bedroom and ours share a wall.
Yay for your MIL coming to town!:

Tara: thanks for the fluid intake reminder. I am quite dehydrated and feel I don't drink enough water anyway so I think I am ok on that.
With Ally sucking her thumb, if you aren't giving her a paci and/or allowing her to suck when she isn't eating, she isn't going to learn to self-soothe which is a natural instinct and something that babies seem to crave and need to grow.
I would suggest letting her self-soothe as she needs.
I hope the bath idea worked to help you get some morning zzzz's. Let me know b/c sometimes Jaspie get rambunctious early early on.

Asoulunbound: I knew re. wraps and my DH that if I suggested trying it at home, he would maybe opt out b/c it seems complicated but if we were somewhere on a trail and I needed him to take over for me, it would work. And it did. I also have my Green Tea Girasol: coming in the mail from Canada- should be here anyday- and I know he loves green so I am thinking that wrap will be a done deal!
Sounds like Jasper and Samara are the same size. He is also around 12 pounds and just is able to fit some of his 3-6 m stuff.
What kind of diapers does your mama make?

Ashley: what a cutie Iris is no matter what the weight! Good sentiment lady. People keep asking me what Jasper's weight is and since we don't have his next wbv til next week, we can only guesstimate and go off his clothing and diaper cover size I do know as with Iris that he is thriving and a little character. He really cracks us up. I love how he likes to talk to us and gets a real serious look on his face while he is doing it.
I am jealous of your family's camping plans. That will be lovely.
We have plans (both related to Matt's urban planning work) to go up to Mammoth Lakes next month and then to Yosemite in June. I simply can't get enough of going up there. I LOVE the Sierras and Yosemite is one of our favorite places.
I love your Fleurville tote.
I think I am gonna love my bag I ordered.
I had to run it by Matt b/c we are tight with money these days but he knows how much I hate the Skip Hop I have been using. Its too small for the amount of prefolds I need when out and about. They are so fluffy! I have run out a few times and had to buy 7th gen sposies on the fly. Plus his blanket never fits on top and I have to carry that separately.
I got the Lexie tote in Red Cranes ( a gorgeous Japanese print) and on the seconds page, it says it is $65 down from $165 but when I put it in my cart, it went even lower to $55.
Gotta love that. I have heard good things about FV bags and have wanted one for a few months now so I feel good about buying one.
Anyone else still need a good bag, they have some cute ones right now on the seconds page. I love the botanical prints too- coral and azure.

Carrie: sorry to hear Nora is sick. How did I miss this? Hugs to you both. Sounds like you got a lot done today though. Can you come over and clean my dump of an apt now?

Jenn: sorry you got called off work. That would annoy.:

Faerie: Ella in the basket...: I wanna gobble her up! Goodlooking men you have there too...father and son!

Thanks ladies for the nice comments on our pictures! It was a lovely day for us and the first time since I have been healed to really do a hike with incline and to feel my body working.
I do feel so very blessed with our personality-filled happy son and glad I have a partner who is proud and willing to wear a wrap and carry his baby. I like to be aware of my blessings and to count them every day.
Gotta make breakfast now...eeeps...I mean lunch! Where did my morning go?
Also meant to add, ty, I think she's cute but I'm biased. I do love that little dress because it's blue, I wish it wasn't 0-3, I'm sad that it's only been warm enough once so far for her to wear it and it will be too small by the time it's warm enough again!

I missed this posting while I was working on my long-winded reply upthread!
: Yes, Sarah, we should def. live closer.
I love me some wool too.
Same brands you mention too.
I haven't tried disana yet but we have a Swaddlebees merino wool cover, a Little Beetle merino wool, 6 Loveybums woolies including one interlock woolie and the aforementioned Kozy merino soakers (2), an aristocrat and Lana care covers (2) en route!:
I am definitely a wool snob now. I would never put him in a PUL cotton cover. They just don't feel nice to me after experiencing wool.
I love GMD too...have done a lot of my wool research by reading their long ads there and looking at all the pictures too.
I am hoping to get Jasper a wool mattress pad and a wool blankie this coming week when we have more money.
I have DH on board with my wool love so I think he will go for it.
I will have to check out the LB wet bag.
Wish we wer closer so we could get together for yoga and to extoll the virtues of wool over a cuppa tea.
Re. your pix:
the Big Sur of course is gorgeous!!! I knew that already but wow, that Kanga is something else too. I am unfamiliar with this carrier and now need to know more!

Carrie: sorry to hear Nora is sick. How did I miss this? Hugs to you both. Sounds like you got a lot done today though. Can you come over and clean my dump of an apt now?
I would love to go to Yosemite! Someday, somehow, DH and I and Nora are going to get out to that side of the country and do it. I TiVoed a special on Yosemite and I've watched it twice b/c I would LOVE to go. So have fun!

And who do you have me mixed up with? Nora isn't sick...hmmm...whose LO is sick?

I'll come clean your dump, sure. As soon as I'm done with mine!
