I can get two slings - am thinking Moby and a Hotsling?

I plan on wearing this baby from the beginning, and nursing in the sling a lot too, because I will be taking the baby to work with me. No one really minds a quiet sleeping/nursing baby at meetings or whatever, so I am hoping these two will be good choices (after reading through things on this board.) Plus when not at work I will also have my lovely 2yo to play with and care for.

What do you all think? I didn't have the ability to get a real sling for DD, just an Eddie Bauer front carrier that I didn't really like. I did have a frame backpack for her too when she was bigger that really helped when I needed to clean house or vacuum. But neither was good for nursing or for very long periods. These two choices (Moby-D and Hotsling) are my best guesses for what I will like and use the most.

Do you all think they will work out for the purposes I am planning for them?

i think if you're going to want to accomplish a lot of discreet nursing, you'd be a lot better off with a ring sling with a reasonably long tail you can use as a cover than with a pouch.

depending on the size of your baby, the moby will probably last a few months at least, and is nice and poppable which is a good thing. but you might find it easier to get work done with baby on your back, and you can't do a back carry with a pouch or a stretchy wrap. so you might think about a different kind of wrap (like a woven) or perhaps a mei tai.

JMO, of course. but i'm not a huge fan of pouches *or* stretchy wraps, so i wouldn't want those to be my only two carriers.

if i personally had to have only two carriers they'd be a good neutral-colored ring sling (like a slingified woven wrap or one made with linen) and a Kozy in colors that would match most of my clothes.

why don't you get one first & decide what you do & don't like about it, then buy the 2nd with those experiences in mind? rather than spending all your $ at once...

This is a good idea. If I could only get 2 slings I would for SURE get a ring sling for my first one- a Maya Wrap, Zolowear or Ellaroo. For the second, I'd get either an asian style carrier (most people prefer Mei Tai, I like Onbus lately) or a wrap, preferably woven as that will last longer.

I think that's great advice! I thought I'd love a ring sling and didn't. Hated the thing. I liked the Moby, at around 4 months I liked the Hotsling too. The carrier I've used for the longest and loved the most was my Ergo though.

I definitely think that if you get two, getting one two-shoulder carrier and one one-shoulder carrier is a great plan.

If it were me, I'd go for a ring sling (easy to adjust for nursing, has a tail for coverage) and a mei tai (two-shoulder comfort, very secure and ergonomic, can also do back carries that a stretchy wrap can't do, also less bulky).

I would go for a maya wrap ring sling instead of the pouch because of the adjustability and tail for nursing and a woven wrap instead of the moby. It'll be useful longer and they're just so much more comfortable IMO.

I'd get a ring sling and a BECO.

I have a great non-padded ring sling that I expected to love, and I can't wear it. I got a moby as a gift and was scared to try, now I'm in love. DH loves the ring sling, and I'm sure I will for hip carries, but the cradle carry for a newborn just doesn't work for me (I'm thin and DS is long, so he gets too scrunched in the neck). So I have a moby and DH has a ring sling. I want to try a mei tai when DS is older, DH wants a beco butterfly or a soft structured with straps.

I've found that for me, others' recommendations don't work. What helped most was watching youtube videos of how to wrap, or carry, or nurse in whatever carrier. For DH, first glance wins it
