Question about Vaccinations

I vaccinated my older children ( didn't know any different) but dd # 2 acctually got the measles from the MMR and it was HORRIBLE. i acctually got fired when I had to leave work to care for her. Their argument: I had used my FMLA HAVING the child. Too bad if she got sick . . . grrrrrrrrr. Any ways Sydney is almost 7 weeks old and my ped does vaccines at 8 weeks. I don't really feel right about giving them to her. My pediatrician has a whole page of their website devoted to why they feel we SHOULD vaccinate. Can anyone here steer me toward some info, or just share, against vaccinating, or for delayed vax? I want to be really informed on this one, so I can be confident I'm making a good decision and can present an intelligent arugument to my ped. I know this is controversial, but I feel kind of lost and could use some guidance on this one.

Along with trying the vax forum consider that you could 1) choose not to explain yourself to your ped or 2) find a new ped that will be supportive/not argue with your decision. You may find that you have to find a new ped anyway as many dismiss patients who do not vax. You could also tell your ped you are delaying for now as you want to do more research. Your local library probably has 'the vaccine book' by Dr. Sears, it is a quick read and good place to start.

I second finding a new ped. Also, Dr. Sears "The Vaccine Book" is awesome. Very easy to read, tells you about each vax, the disease, etc. I highly reccommend it!

:

The Dr Sears website also lists some peds who are no/selective vax friendly. Thats where I found ours and we love her. You could also try posting in the "finding your tribe" forum and asking what docs people in your area have used. good luck and don't be afraid to stand up for what you feel is best for your family.

If they have a whole page of their website telling you you _need_ to vaccinate your kid, they really aren't interested in anything you have to say on the topic.

We've had good luck with family practitioners (instead of pediatricians) and we've always gotten good suggestions on the Finding Your Tribe sub-forum. Local midwives and chiropractors sometimes also have recommendations, as well as local yahoo groups for things like holistic moms, AP parenting, babywearing, and other "weird" stuff like that.

Hi Erin! Remember that you don't need to explain yourself to the doctor on why you are researching and/or delaying vaccines for your child. You also do not need to file any exemptions with a doctor, those are only for daycare or school.

Only do a vaccine if you have done a lot of research on it (from different sources) and only if you feel 100% confident and feel that your child is more at risk of a serious consequence from the disease itself versus a serious vaccine reaction. Remember once you put it in you cannot take it back.

check this website: http://insidevaccines.com all information is backed up with references and it's very easy to navigate and look up each vaccine.
