Does anyone know of any places that give rental and deposit assistance....I have had the worst few months of my entire life....and now my electicity is about to be shut off....and I am gonna be kicked out of my house in 2 days if I can't come up with my rent money.

I have 3 children....all of my family has moved out of town in the last year...or died....we have nowhere to go....I really need to pay my rent....get back on my feet and get back to live....out of this dark hole I am in

I had planned on paying with my tax refund....that I was suppose to be recieving yesterday.....and now true to my year....there is some kind of hold on them....

Monday first thing, can you call your county's housing dept? They can, at the very least, refer you to a women and children shelter. Shelters do assist you in finding permanent housing solutions.

Where are you located?
Good Luck. A shelter would be a good place to go in the mean time. Can't anyone in your family come pick you up and bring you there with them?

find a local church and ask for assistance there. They can help find all the phone numbers you need and help you get some food and essentials.

your landlord can't "kick you out" immediately. there's a whole legal process they have to go through. google "tenant rights" in your state.

Has the landlord actually started the eviction process? Because it generally takes awhile. So unless you are behind my multiple months, you have time still. And in some states, if you pay even a partial rent payment for the month, the landlord cannot begin the eviction process in the court yet. Definitely worth researching.

I couldn't read and not post.

Call your local legal aid office. They usually give free legal advice about landlord/tenant issues. What kind of paperwork has your landlord given you about the eviction? He can't just throw you out. As someone else mentioned, there is a whole process that has to be followed.

Since you have 3 children are you getting WIC, medicaid, food stamps? Usually the local office that provides food stamps knows where to refer you for housing.

Call the local churches as many of them as you can find. They may have a program that fits your needs. If not, they can direct you to where you can get help.

Call womens shelters as another poster pointed out.

Some housing links I found online to get you started.

I know you posted this on 01/31/09 and have not posted anything since, but I do hope you have been reading this thread.

I do not know what state you are in, but in CA, they do have homeless assistnce help to where you can get a hotel for a few months until you get back on your feet.

Also, as other posters have said, it takes quite a while to actually get evicted. They have to give you a three day notice (again, I am in CA so may be different where you are). After three day notice then they inform you they are going to start eviction process which could take up to 60 days, if not longer.

BookGoddess gave you some wonderfully helpful websites. I do hope you utilize the help you have been given here.

Good Luck to you!!

Call your local Salvation Army or Catholic church.
