Best Soap and Shampoo for my kids

Thread Starter
I am pulling my head out from the sand that it was buried in . . .. and facing the fact that I need to pay more attention to the soap and shampoo I use on my kids (and me!).

Please give me your favorites for kids - and tell me what I should be looking for in these products (or what I should be making sure "isn't there").

A couple of worries is $$ and shampoo that will also condition - my oldest DS and DD have very thick curly hair . . . . I'll need something conditioning or I'll never get a comb through it . . .

For my kids, I love California baby products. We also use a lot of Dr. Bronner's Baby mild soap, just not so much for hair.

My thing is staying away from parabens, SLS and synthetic fragrances. That's why I love Cali baby's super sensitive line, there are no scents.

What you can do is check any product with the cosmetic database and you should find the safety rating (they assign numbers, 0 being the least dangerous) and read up on the ingredients as well. I tend to look up anything new that comes into my home and will be put on anyones body/skin.

I love california baby. No conditioner needed. It seems expensive but the 17 ounce bottle lasts my whole family a year.

We use the California Baby "super sensitive", which lacks the added fragrances, and love it. It may be ten dollars for the bottle, but it lasts forever, and it's shampoo/body wash as well, so it's only one bottle to mess with. Target is the cheapest place I've found it, in the baby section.

Another vote for California Baby or Weleda Baby, both are excellent

Personally, I only use soap/shampoo on the appropriate places & when needed (and most of the time it isn't needed).

I know some adults with really curly hair have better results using only conditioner (not every day) on their hair giving them beautiful soft ringlets. So I'd try not shampooing the kiddos for a couple days and then trying conditioner only, rinsing *really* well. And never brush through wet hair.

Also, a wonderful book with awsome recipes is Jeanne Rose's Herbal Body Book.
