I went to change my ds's (2.5) overnight (prefold w/ hemp insert w/ wool cover) diaper this morning and he was slightly retracted and red. I have already noticed he retracts slightly (enough to see the top of the glands only) because he has retracted himself before in the tub. I just changed him to cloth a month ago (dd is cd and his sposies ran out). Should I be concerned (about possible irritation from the diaper) or is this normal. He wrestles in bed and last nap he wrestled his penis out of the diaper and peed all over the place. Usually I use a pocket for him at night. But I just want to make sure it wasn't anything I did wrong and find out if I need to do anything for him (like change diapering style or something). It closed up on its own when I was wiping him.

Maybe he is going through some separation of the foreskin. I don't think you should be worried. I would do some baking soda baths, that will help with itchiness or discomfort. I don't think there is any problems with cding. Sometimes I can see very slightly the tip of my baby's glans and it looks bright red and shiny. I thought that was normal. someone correct me?

Keeping in mind that the inner foreskin and glans should be a bright purple/red I wouldnt think to much of it unless he was in pain. Just make sure that you put the foreskin back over the glans if you see him retracted.

Okay I didn't know this. I guess I figured it would be a normal skin color unless irritated. Good to know. When does the red color go away?

It doesn't, it only changes to that colour (skin colour) after circumcision as the skin thickens and keratinises to protect the glans. Red/purple is the natural healthy colour that it should be.

Imagine the inner mucosa of your lips how red they are? If you have a girl you could also tell her inner parts are red, it's normal. Any internal organ is bright red/purple and moist and shiny.

Like pp's said it will always be that color because it is like the inside of the mouth or the inside of the vagina. Each individual will have a different normal as far as color is concerned. Just like everyone has a different lip color.

A link you may find helpful in the future: http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=764732 some things that you might see or you may not but if you do you will know what is going on and if it is something to be concerned about.
