i will be taking care of a 83 year old gma who loooooves romances. she has eye issues so i will have to read to her.

i HATE, HATE, HATE romances.

but its not about me.

so i was looking for suggestions of what to read to her. she has her own romances but something more tolerable for me - IF she is willing to.

i have a couple of suggestions for her.

1. daddy long legs by jean webster
2. arms and the man by george bernard shaw.

any others?

What about Jane Austen? They're really the origin of the romance novel. Yeah, they were published in the 1810s, but they're so much better than the modern ones!:

omg noooooooooo!!! jane austen would be too 'heavy' for her. i think she wants something light. i would enjoy reading them myself but i dont think eileen would enjoy them. but that reminds me she might enjoy charlotte bronte's jane eyre. i am assuming though she hasnt read these. now if i could i would love to read wuthering heights to her. its one of my favourites.

What about Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier?

How about mystery/adventure/military/sci fi romance?

The newer Intrigue romance are really great.

Lindsay McKenna writes some kick butt paranormal and military romance. The Morgans Mercenary ones are my all time fav.

Tina Leonard writes some hilarious stuff just your basic romance that make you laugh out loud.

Light mystery:
The Cat Who.. Series by Lilian Jackson Braun
Sue Graftons ABC Series

What about the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon? They are romantic and have a great story line. Plus they are long so it would while away many afternoons.

OMG! You think she's enjoy Jane Eyre, but Austen is too "heavy" for her? That's soooo funny! Austen is very light compared with Jane Eyre!

I second the PP suggestion of the Outlander series!

If she likes Daddy Long Legs, don't forget to try the sequel, Dear Enemy. Two of my favorites...and I like romances, too.

I had the same thought. Eyre is very heavy. I can't picture one of Austen's heroines traipsing through the moors starved and lost because her husband to be had a crazy wife in the attic.

I was going to suggest harlequin type romance books but I noticed this is for your grandma so probably those books and bodice ripper books are out.

Anything by Judith McNaught:

Perfect
Until You (reading right now)
Whitney, My Love

I didn't realize how much I loved romance novels until someone's post here convinced me to try Perfect.

I love Jane Eyre, and Pride and Prejudice, but if you are looking for something light, quick and easy, go with McNaught

That is exactly what I was going to suggest. Lots of romance and adventure.
