Lovin PDX in February - Page 56

Hey ladies, I'm thinking about doing a yard sale maybe the weekend that's at the end of spring break, I think 3/28-29. I have a burning desire to have the proceeds go to some good cause, maybe a struggling family or two. I'm really not sure. Does anyone want to get in on this? I live in a pretty great location for yard sales - in Westmoreland, between the main streets of Milwaukie and Bybee. I'll be spending most of spring break doing spring cleaning, and then I really want to get rid of it all! I know we all could probably use extra money for ourselves, but if anyone is interested in doing a donation thing, let me know!

Oh, and come to Kidfest today! I guess it's 3 and under are free. I saw Pauline there yesterday. There are 4 or 5 different bouncing castles, petting zoo, rock climbing, face painting, Mad Science (which is really cool!), cheesy Radio Disney concerts, um...and more.

I bought some beautiful hand-knit lambswool sweaters for Lu for incredible prices, and these adorable Oeco-tech back-packs and lunch bags. The back-packs and lunch bags are made by a woman in Seattle. She has a whole box of defected ones (like, a slight wrinkle in the fabric) for I think $10 to $15. I also bought some lotion and soap for Lu's eczema. If anyone has eczema or psoriasis, there's a lady there who is really knowledgeable about skin conditions and the stuff she makes is really awesome. I put a sample on Lu's eczema, and it made a significant difference over a few hours.

And of course, you can come do origami with Tania!

One caution - bring your own food!

Oh, and I have to say, the La Leche League and breastfeeding community really need to get involved in these shows. They are considered "the" baby and kid event of the NW (they go to Seattle and Eugene and No. Cal. too), and Similac is all over it. Didn't see too many at their booth though. It was kind of sad to not see any breastfeeding info booths there.

Oh wow.. That is expensive. It would cost $40 for us to go. Not to mention parking or train tickets.

Yeah, I was pretty amazed when I saw large families walking around yesterday! Better for a Mama with 1 or 2 kids (hopefully age 3 and under).

Here's a link to the bags I bought. The brand is Dabba Walla. I got the elephant back-pack for Tania (for $20 instead of $48), the doggy back-pack for Lu (for $15 instead of $48), and the watermelon lunch bag for me (for $10 instead of $38).

Candice, we could probably go in on that. Keep us in the loop.

Kidsfest was really fun for Sophia and I. I would not have gone if I had to pay more than 10 bucks for my family to get in though. Sophia loved the jumping things, the animals, and she got to take a drum lesson from the SoundRoots Music booth. I really liked them and have been thinking of signing Sophia up for their Rookie Rock class. I really liked how they interacted with her and the way they were trying to teach her to play drums.

I was sad about not seeing ANY breastfeeding booths at all. Or cloth diapers or midwives or anything like that. I was a little distrubed by the Disney Insanity on the main stage but I think that was too be expected. There were these very young girls all gussied up like pop stars who I think are kind of famous for something or other or the Disney channel. All these 10 year old girls were rushing the stage and screaming like it was the Beatles. It was kind of funny and kind of not funny too.

Yeah, totally bring your own food. I spent a small fortune on a juice, a bagel and a turkey sandwich.

Oh and this guy at a language school booth kind of guilted me into thinking I was a bad mom because Sophia is not learning Manderin Chinese right this minute which is apparently the only time she will be able to learn Manderin Chinese with the proper accent and only by going to his school 3 days a week for 4 hours a day but then I got over it.

Oh yeah, and they had so many cute things to buy. I thought those bags were really cute Candice. I only brought a twenty with me because I was afraid there would be really tempting shopping opportunities. It was kind of sad not to get anything but kind of good too because now we can buy food

the best spot over here for anyone who is fundraising or selling is Fred Meyers. They let you be inside AND there are tons of people there all day long

yes well, another troop already has Fred Meyers today. That leaves safeway who never lets anyone go inside no matter what. And has complained that people were taking "choice" spots and complaining about the girls asking people on the way in (which they aren't supposed to do but some of the younger ones get excited and forget) and Walgreens. Walgreens has put a 2 girl limit but it's only going to be Elizabeth and me so that isn't a big deal.

And yes while we only sell 20 box in 2 hours with one girl at Walgreens when we sell 50 in 2 hours with 2 it has to be split so it evens out to about the same.

Is it wrong to be pissed off at Dh for being sick for over two weeks... over his entire vacation so he hasn't been able to do ONE SINGLE THING he was supposed to do to help me around the house? He is going to go back to work tomorrow and I still can't walk through the garage, and my washer hasn't been moved to clean behind and he hasn't checked the dryer hose to make sure it isn't clogged. He was sick the whole time we were gone.. that was supposed to be my Christmas present.. instead I got to watch him sleep most of the time...we didn't get to do anything.. and while it was restful.. it would have been nice to get out of the cabin once besides coming back and trading cars.

Ok having a poor me moment.. I guess I will go sort those cookies that are left and iron his stupid shirts.

No, nothing special. In fact I'm just hanging out at home, doing laundry and such. I just woke up in a good mood. Sometimes if I announce loudly enough that it is going to be a good day, my good mood will linger. So far so good! Just spreading the good cheer! :
