Taking out a Mirena to TTC

Any thoughts on how far in advance I should take out my Mirena IUD before TTC?

I'm planning on TTC starting in October because I have debilitating allergies through most of the year. If I'm able to get pregnant in Oct or Nov time frame, I can avoid taking any medication during my first trimester and part of my second and still feel like a human being.

TIA

Hi,
I got my Mirena out in December to start TTC'ing and I was pregnant by February. I was 39 years old at the time.

Good luck with the TTC, and I'm sorry to hear about your allergies, that must be miserable.

I just got mine out this month and ovulated 7 days later. I normally don't ovulate due to PCOS anyway. Looks like they aren't lying when they say you will return to fertility immediately.

A little off the subject, but about your allergies...

Have you ever considered that food may be the culprit? I used to have awful year round allergies, sneezing and runny nose most of the year and HORRIBLE springtime stuff. I stopped eating gluten and they all went away. I have occasional hayfever in spring but nothing compared to what it was like before. I think my body was just using so much energy, etc. to deal with gluten that it wasn't able to handle anything else. Now my immune system can actually tackle allergens. It is definitley worth a try, IMO, for anyone who has hayfever, etc. Just stop eating it for a while, two weeks if you can. See how you feel. Then try eating the offending food again and see how you feel. Sorry for the tangent....

Thanks for the responses. I asked my midwife about this when I went in for my "well woman" appointment. I realized later though that I may have communicated I wanted to start TTC in Oct rather than I really want to conceive in the Oct/Nov timeframe -- a small, but possibly significant difference.

On the tangent of allergies, I've just started seeing an allergist. I "over-achieved" on the allergy test though I didn't do the food allergies. Now I'm on the allergy shots so maybe by the time fall rolls around I'll have a significant reduction in allergies. That would be super nice. Anyhow, I've toyed with the idea of doing an elimination diet since I also have skin problems and I've recently learned for some people that's a result of food intolerances/allergies. I just haven't done this yet. I guess I could start with wheat though. With dairy I have a tough time giving up ice cream, yogurt, and cheese.

Sounds just like my allergy/skin issues. Wheat and milk were the culprit. Seriously I feel 1000 times better without it. No more living on allergy meds and still being miserable 10 months out of every year! It's worth it to try eliminating it.

I had my Mirena removed at the end of August and ovulated right away. I actually avoided that month, but I did get pregnant in September. I was 33 at the time. My first child (no Mirena beforehand) was conceived immediately also.

DS was conceived the first month we didn't use BC every time we DDT. We were planning on TTC the next month, but never got that far. So I'm guessing I'll go into have the Mirena removed towards the end of August.

2 months

Hello wonderful ladies!

Word on the street from midwives around me is that you should wait 2 months after removing Mirena before you want to conceive so that the lining of your uterus can get nice and thick (think: good baby environment). I have heard of women having miscarriages is the conceive too soon after removing Mirena

Wishing you all the best

I started charting right away and had a clear ovulation pattern the first month. If you wanted to make sure the hormones had left your system, probably wait a cycle or two.
Good luck conceiving on your timeline!
