HELP! Using Heat N Bond Lite...

My daughter's curtains are cloth shower curtains. They're cute, but waaay too thin to keep the street light out at night. So I went to Hancock Fabrics yesterday and bought enough "light blocking backing" (no idea what the real name is since that is the exact term I told the saleswoman) and "Heat N Bond Lite" to cover all four curtains.

I went to start tonight and realized I don't know what I'm doing.

PLEASE HELP! And please write to me like I'm a complete idiot!!

I have the shower curtain with the pretty side down. Do I put the HNBL on next? Sticky side down so I'm ironing on the paper? Pull the paper off? Then put the LBB down on that and iron again? The LBB has two slightly different sides - one is smooth and one is a little rough - which side goes down against the HNBL?

Do I need to put the LBB on while the HNBL is still warm from pulling off the paper or can I wait a bit while I cut the LBB to size?

Thanks so much! I swear, I'm actually a smart woman, but too many options is killing me.

You have to follow the directions on the heat n bond. Some require steam on high heat, some are low heat or medium with no steam.

Typically I will put it on, paper side down, then iron it on, then wait to cool, peel off the paper, then put the other fabric on, then iron again. BUT, this is with quilting applique.

When I've used blackout liner I actually just sew it to the top of the curtain so it is a lining, not fused to the curtain. Is the blackout lining machine washable? You run the risk of having them shrink differently if you ever have to wash it and it's all fused together. If you don't have a sewing maching what about hanging it on a double rod?

Thanks for your feedback. The lady at Hancock recommended the HNBL when she overheard me saying that I'm not a sewer - she just knew it would be the easiest option for me. I'll probably never wash the curtains again. *hides*

Any idea which side of the blackout liner goes against the curtain and which side goes against the window?
