How many people do you know IRL that had a HB? - Page 5

I know many. A bunch of moms in my LLL, API, and baby wearing groups have had homebirths. I also know many moms who birthed at a local birthing center.

My aunt had one of her 2 babies at home, and my mom had one in a birthing center. Although I thought of hospital births as pretty normal growing up, I also thought of drug free births as normal, vaginal births as completely assumed, inductions as very weird, and c-sections as special case serious issue births. When I was pregnant with my first I wasn't comfortable with the idea of a homebirth (though I really wanted a birth center birth), but I was also completely uncomfortable with the idea of interventions.

One somewhat close friend, and then 3 or 4 other mamas IRL.

Not enough...

Two people who've had them and one who's getting ready to have her first. I like to think I had a little to do with her and her husband's decision (paving the way in our family so to speak).

And yeah - I'm also considered a freak of nature for doing this. I'm the only person in my town that I know of. The others are friends who live far away. Though I'm hoping my sis will have a HBAC with her next pregnancy. She says she's not even going to GET pregnant unless she can find someone to HBAC her - her c-section experience was so awful.

Me!
My SIL had one and #2 is coming this week!

Other than that I know of 5 people frommy yoga group, 5 people from my play group, 1 unplanned HB in my oldhood, 2 planned in my new hood.

So I guess I know a bunch but it might have to do with the fact that I keep the company of midwives, doulas and birth activists.

I know lots. I live in VA and am involved with a local homebirth group. We meet monthly with our midwife. : )

One. The mother of one of my school friends. She had a HBAC with her third child.

I know a lot, but I live in a progressive area with lots of midwives, where people hardly bat an eye when you tell them you've had a homebirth. I'd say maybe 1 in 5? And a lot of the people I know who had hospital births say they'd do homebirth if they had it to do over.

I could have written this word by word...

I know two - a friend of mine that lives an hour from me and my step-SIL, but I'm not close to her.

Quite a few, but I'm a doula, so that is probably why!

none... except for my grandmothers, both of who had half their kids at home, before hospitals became fashionable.

2. my midwife, and my doula. eta, no wait, make that 3. my midwife, my doula, and a mama i met in the park recently.

I know quite a lot, actually, but didn't at the time I had my first (I only knew one plus my midwives). Once we relocated to a crunchy area I started meeting a lot but before that I only knew a few.

Besides me? Two.

I probably know 20-25 mamas IRL who are homebirthers.

Not one. Zip. Zero. Zilch. I have one online friend who did, but I met her through MDC, so I don't think that counts. Only one of my friends has even had a vaginal birth. I even had a C-section. I'm planning a UBAC and I'll be the first person I know to have a homebirth, much less a UC.
