February Unitarian Universalist Thread - All Welcome

Welcome to the February support, community, information, conversation, and fun thread for UUs and UU curious.

Here is the link to the previous January thread.

Come on in and say "Hi", ask a question, tell a story, or feel free to just lurk for awhile.

In honor of February:

At the end of each service at my church the congregation says "Let us go from this place open to life, expecting to love, and prepared to serve." I really like that routine affirmation that we should have loving as an expectation of ourselves.

My PC screen saver is the banner and my current quote is:

Quote:
"The opposite of hatred is not love. The opposite of hatred is compassion. Love is so powerful that it stands alone, unopposed." ~ David Pyle
Wishing everyone a month filled with joy, peace, and especially love!

Adele

At the end of every service we say,

"We extinguish this flame,
but not the light of truth,
the warmth of community,
or the fire of commitment.
These we carry in our hearts until we
are together again."

One of my favorite parts of the service!

On NPR this afternoon, they were talking about sex ed in schools - what's being taught, what's not being taught, different opinions, what's working (and how do you define "working") - and one of the panelists they talked to was the project director for the OWL program. It was nice. My favorite part was when the host said that she is from a very liberal faith, and not every religion is that way, what does she say to people who perhaps don't want their children to learn about other sexual orientations, or about anything but abstinence - and she said that the OWL program doesn't tell anyone what to believe really, but each step of the way helps them to clarify their own beliefs, and to understand things more fully. *sigh* She said it SO much better. Probably why she's the program director and I'm not!

Thanks! We saved her placenta and will be planting a fruit tree on the church grounds once the ground is thawed for teh summer with it. Our minister is very excited to do this!

We will also be having a naming and dedication ceremony at the church as well!

We are so very excited to bring her into such a wonderful church community!

Congratulations!

Does anyone else do a chocolate communion near Valentine's? We each bring in one wrapped piece of chocolate and put it in a bowl. At the end of the sermon when we're walking out, we pick a different piece! We're also doing ice cream sundaes after church that day.:

Good luck- I know how it feels to have your hopes and expectations unmet when "church shopping." Happily, I also know how great it feels to find that place full of possibility.

Aww thanks! We kinda like her!

We took her to service this morning and there was a special congrats in the order of service for us too. Our mom's group does "meals for moms" too and a few peopel brought us some nice yummy food. Chicken Jumbalaya and beef stew so far - they do meals every other day for two weeks. Later this week one of teh moms is callign in a pizza order for us since she is 100 miles away and wants to help out too. So that will be a welcome treat.

So I am a bona fide member at my church as of last month. I've just been attending, but now it's official. I love my church.
