: We had our PT conference today, which I was kind of dreading but needed to do. I have to say that I FINALLY have something nice to say about my comfort with the school/teachers, and I figured I'd share because so many have listened to me complain so frequently!
Since ds is new to her class since the last time I conferenced with her and his downstairs teacher, she has a better handle on his abilities. Whereas last fall she was saying that I should hold him out of kindergarten another year, now she says, since she's had a chance to observe his skills for herself (skills which I tried to convince them were there last fall, even!), that he is quite ready for kindergarten in August. She also said it would have been a mistake to keep him downstairs (younger classroom) any longer, whereas last fall I was told that he'd likely be down there for the entire year because he just wasn't ready to be upstairs. While she doesn't see exactly who he is (he doesn't talk much or show his creativity at school), she sees what a bright kid he is, and - more importantly to me - she sees that he has a great sense of humor! I almost cried when she said she recognized that in him.
It was a very positive conference, and while we also talked about areas he still needs to work on, she was positive about ds, which is the piece that has been lacking so often!
