hi! new here, sick 3yo

Hi all! This is only my second post here, but i am hoping someone out there has some good info and tips for me!
Quickly, my 2 daughters 5 and 3, just moved to Exeter from america. I left behind all my AP friends and i am having a bit of a time navigating the parenting world as i have no friends with kids here. I am looking forward to diging out some of the local AP parents and getting to know a few ppl.
Here is my current problem tho, hoping someone can help…
We flew over on a really crouded flight, got caught in the most unhospitible of holding pens in customs, and have been here just over a week. My 5yo and i are just a bit sutffy, but nothing we arent dealing with. My 3yo got a fever (not high enough to treat) on the 2nd and 3rd days. that went away followed by a VERY snotty nose, the likes of witch i havent seen in my kids. On the fifth day her face broke out in spots!!!!! The spots have receded, but her nose is a mess and it looks like it has spread to onle eye. We weaned on her 3rd b-day so i might have enough milk to treat her eye with, but here are my questions:
Has anyone heard of this? know what it is? (she is ONLY vaxed against DTaP and polio)
where oh where (online or otherwise) do i buy homeopathics?
How long should i wait before taking some kind of medical action? I would have no problem dealing with this in the states really, someone i knew would have had it or at least my dr would have had some clue. I left behind the best, most non-intervention dr and dont know what they would do to her if i took her in somewhere here? if i even can?
Thanks for your help and looking forward to getting to know you!!

Good luck! hehe... Maybe its just where I live, but I find finding 'ap' type friends really hard to find (I have some very close crunchy mummies, but they live at least a few hours drive away - not exactly see everyday type friends iykwim). I have had better luck at my local home ed group - we all think much more alike at least! But where we live, there are lots of toddler groups at least. It helped us to get out - even if the 'friends' we made were very different from us!

I have no idea what your 3 year old has! (though probably picked it up from the plane!)...But get down to Boots! - They sell all the homeopathic remedies. And, I find that any 'health' shop - especially H&B also sell them all as well! (we use them ourselves! ) (both boots and h&b are well 'branded' named stores and are easy to find!)

Are you registered with your local GP? They see children right away. Our health care system here is free - and prescription is free for those under the age of 16. You can even get homeopathic remedies on nhs - but you have to push for them. Being new though, you can explain that is all you use and maybe you won't have to push so hard. GPs are not 'doctors'...you go in, they look at you and let you know what the problem is and can give you a prescription to pick up (if there anything you can take for it) - I wouldnt exactly consider them intervening.

I was born in California. I find the health care system here MUCH better - especially towards children and pregnant woman. The only complaint I would have about is that if you need surgery or something major like that, you have to wait awhile sometimes where going 'private' would be quicker...at least NHS is free...I mean are taxes are so bloody high at least I get something out of it lol

How long you wait for any kind of medical action I guess is up to you. I tend to be considered 'neglectful' in that department... Unless theres a broken bone, we deal with it ourselves. Most people we know rush down to the GP as soon as their child has a sniffle! lol Even when DS had the chicken pox (which I purposly infected him with lol) - I never went to the GP! A little homeopathy for the itching was all we needed and we got by without even a temperature!

There are some GPs who are members of the Faculty of Homeopathy, and there's one in Exeter. I can't recommend him personally, but he will at least know that it's not just fizzy water, and you should be able to get an appointment within 48 hours.

Name: Dr Peter Miller MBChB DCH DFFP MRCGP MFHom

Address:
St Thomas Medical Centre,
Cowick Street,
Exeter
Devon
England
EX4 1HJ
Telephone Number(s): 01392 676636, 01392 676677

Codes: GP

MFHom
An advanced qualification in homeopathy which indicates that the holder has passed the Faculty of Homeopathy's Membership examination. Doctors with the qualification MFHom are able to treat patients with complex and chronic conditions and will be working in a range of settings - general practice, specialist homeopathy clinics or private practice. They will be working under supervision unless they have completed a period of further study and gained admission to the Faculty of Homeopathy's Specialist Register.

You will have to be in the right geographical area to be covered by that practice, it's generally a 5-10 mile radius but depends on the area.

For pills, potions and lotions I love www.baldwins.co.uk but www.helios.co.uk are nice too. There's a Neals Yard in Exeter which will suck your wallet dry- I heartily recommend their baby bottom butter.

Can I say something gently? Given that your child has just flown from one continent to another, it is possible that she's actually come into contact with something quite nasty. I would be more cautious this time and get it seen by a doctor ASAP, in case it is something more sinister than airline-acquired-hand-foot-and-mouth disease.

Ann, my mind is boggling. What do you mean, GPs aren't doctors??? :

eta: there's also a homeopathic dentist in Exeter. Lucky you.

Not about sickness - but just to say that there are lots of APers in and around Exeter. There are some on the slingmeet website (.co.uk) and you could also seek out the Natural Nursery store who have recently moved to Exeter from Bristol (naturalnursery.co.uk I don't know if they still have a bricks and mortar but an email would tell you :-) ) They are also likely to know about holistic docs etc in the area (Exeter is quite alt, in its own way). There is also an arts centre down in the docks/river area on the town side, that has a huge notice board with all sorts on (at least it did the last time I was in there, but that was a year ago )

You know what I mean - things are different in America (and yes, im generalising ). If you go to see your 'doctor' and need surgery, they just send you up the hall. Hospitals, and all things associated with them are kept seperate here. The 'doctor' is the one that took out my tonsils - my 'GP' is the one that prescribed me some lotion.

Oh, I SEE. So Sicko and TBOBB aren't actually fiction, then?
