where's my refund? - Page 3

I'm sad and not sure what to do because i can't pay rent. I don't get why people who filed after me are already getting theirs. My financial aid was short $1500 this month because of the California budget crisis. They can't release the remaining aid until the budget goes through and there is no date for that. On top of that apparently the state of CA is witholding welfare and food stamps until the budget goes through. I'm in a very bad financial state if this is true. My food stamps are due on the 10th. I need to feed my 5 kids so i pray this isn't true. I also don't get why some people are even getting their returns on the 13th of this month and mine have been pushed all the way till the 24th. I filed on January 20th! Sorry i am really scared right now.

Are you sure all of your account numbers are correct? That was one of my co-worker's problems.

Mine was supposed to be deposited today and it is a pending transaction as of this morning.

im having the same issue. no pending transactions and i double checked my account info and they both are right. turbotax said the 6th and irs said the 10th to allow the bank to release funds to account. if there are no pending transactions could that also be the bank just needing to update?

The IRS site moved my date to the 24th and it doesn't say pending at all. I rechecked my acct numbers a gazillion times so i doubt it.

It isn't vital that I receive our refund right away, but I am annoyed at the delays. My electronic return was accepted on January 28. At first the IRS said that I'd receive my refund by Feb. 6th. Then it changed to the 10th. Now the IRS Where's My Refund site is saying:

We have received your tax return and it is being processed. Unless we find mistakes or you owe other taxes, you should receive your refund by February 17, 2009.
No pending transactions this morning when I checked my bank account.

to the mamas who are counting on the money but are still waiting.

I spent 25 minutes on hold the other night to get a PERSON at the IRS who told me it should deposit today!

I am going to scream! DH took a week and a half vacation and most everything we have planned is dependant on this refund.

I got this message on Wendesday from the Where's My Refund site:

Quote:
Your tax refund is scheduled to be direct deposited on February 6, 2009. If your refund is not credited to your account by February 11, 2009, check with your bank to find out if it has been received. Please wait until February 11, 2009 before you contact us again because we are unable to take any action until then.
Before, it just said that it was processing. I guess you can't count on the deposit until the IRS reports that processing was finished. If it says that and still is not there, no idea.

well on the irs site with "where's my refund" it says Feb 10th which is a Tuesday and we all know they only deposite money on fridays, so either my bank is lazy or i have to wait until next freaking friday! next year i will not use turbo tax and pay the $89 for it total waste of money for this kind of thing to be happening. 8 days refund my eye!

i finally managed to get ahold of someone at the IRS. Apparently, my delay is because its in the error correction system. the person was not very helpful
I used turbo tax, so i cant imagine what the error could be.
I asked her what the error was, she didnt know. She said my return is still processing. I asked her when it would be done processing, she didnt know. I asked her if she could give me an estimate as to when it would be deposited, she said she didnt know.
I asked if it would be MONTHS??? She said she didnt think so, and if it wasnt there next friday, to call them back.
this is unbelievable. we have the simplest return of all. WHY is this taking so long???

I don't think it's Turbo Tax's fault. The delay is with the IRS itself. Turbo Tax can only send your info to the IRS. Once it's in the IRS's hands, Turbo Tax doesn't have any control over how long the IRS takes to process the refund.

I think there's something strange going on this year. I've filed electronically since 2003, and I've never had a refund delayed like this before. It sounds like the IRS just isn't capable of processing so many returns at one time.

I read an article somewhere that said some were delayed because of errors in reporting how big a stimulus check people got last year. I don't knwo if the errors were on the IRS side or the side of those filing.

says that the delays are due to the stimulus checks from last year.

I remember turbo tax asking me if i got a stimulus payment, and how much. and I got the $300 recovery rebate, because DD2 was born jan 1st last year.

i wonder if it will affect my refund amount?

I just have a quick question. My tax returns was accepted last Saturday. According to Turbo Tax / Santa Barbara bank, my refund should be direct deposited this Friday. Now when I check the site, "Where's My refund" It states that I should receive my refund no later than Feb 17.

Now my question is do anyone know when the IRS updates their site or what day this week I should check the site to check if my return has finished being processed along with the statement confirming deposit.

I filed on tues 1/27. It was accepted on 1/28. the IRS chart said I should have my refund by Feb 6th. Today (monday) it is still not there. I will give it until tomorrow before checking it out. I dont have to have the money right away so no big deal. I used the turbotax net version because of the high cost of the cd version this year. It was only $29.99 to file. I filed my state for free and that was in my account within a week.

I am wondering if the IRS is not using the ACH (automatic clearing house) this year and prodding it thru the old fashion banking system to allow for "float". When that happens, you can expect a transfer anywhere from 2-10 business days since it has to go thru so many hands.


ETA- I went thru the where's my refund and now it is saying the 17th which is a Tuesday.

IRS still says mine is due the 24th of feb and i filed Jan 20th. I did figure out this must have to do with the stimulus check from last year. My filing status changed from married/jointly to head of household and i was only supposed to claim my portion of the stimulus(i think?). So if that is true then my refund amount will go up and the IRS is fixing my error. This is speculation though when i called the IRS they said i had no error and that my refund was delayed by a month for no good reason.

well i checked WMR and it still says

"We have received your tax return and it is being processed. Unless we find mistakes or you owe other taxes, you should receive your refund by February 10, 2009."

But there is still no pending transactions in my account. Filed my mother in law probably 1 week after i filed mine (e-file turbotax) and her message is different than mine, same date but it says something like "your return is scheduled to be deposited on the 10th and if you dont get it by the 15th then contact us"

So why is mine only giving me the generic message

I'm guessing because it hasn't been approved. It's still processing which is the same as accepted, yet it doesn't mean they have reviewed it and issued a refund.

Mine says the same, I wish they'd hurry up and get to it already!

Mine did have the generic "Your return is being processed...refund should be deposited by February 17th" message, but now the Where's My Refund site is giving me the "You may have made a mistake" message that they do not have info about out return. Anyone else experience this? I called the Refund Hotline and the message there was still the "Your return is being processed...refund should be deposited by February 17th". I'm very perplexed by this!
