joey sling vs bamberoo vs kozy???

OK, thanks to the invaluable input from all you wonderful ladies, I think I've finally decided on a MT (notice the word *think* )!

Now I also *think* I've narrowed it down to three...your input would be much appreicated!

I need a carrier that's easy, simple, quick and good with a very, very active little boy. I have to be able to put the carrier on and the baby in all by myself. I'll be carrying him while cooking, doing housework, but also going for walks, etc. I don't like the buckles on the SSC's, so I'm going for a MT. I need him to be secure as free hands are a must!

"Little" boy is referring to his age...9 1/2 mos. He's about 22lbs and a foot long - 95th percentile for weight and for length! And very interested in looking around, grabbing, squirming, etc. But wants to be close to mama, too... (I'm enjoying while I can ). He loves our Moby facing out (getting too heavy for it), seems to feel constricted in the hotsling in the hip hold (which is a bummer, because that's how I always hold him - on my hip (no carrier at this point at home).

I am 5'7'', 150lbs, with broad shoulders and widish hips (size 10), avg torso and longish legs. I will be the only one wearing him.

Of course, in these times, $ is an important factor. I do plan to sell a hotsling that I bought a size too big, as well as my barely used Peg Perego stroller...

I've narrowed it down to three - the joey sling, the bamberoo and the kozy. I like that they have wide-ish straps, I like the bamberoo's cross tie under baby's bum in the pics, I like that the joey has the "headrest" that can fold up or down (though I don't really like the joey's prints, but that's not going to be the most important factor). The kozy was the first one that seemed "right", so I'm still considering it strongly.

Oh, PS - do you realistically think I could find any of these used? People seem to be holding on to them...

Help! Help! Help!

Thanks so much, mama's!

Have you tried any of these on? If there is a distributor near you, you might get the chance! www.handsfreebaby.com is based in Dover, DE & sells Kozy among others.

As for used, you could try searching on thebabywearer.com as well.

Sorry, I've never tried any of those, so I don't have any other input.

Thank you for the resources!

I think I need to clarify what the joey is, because I've posted on TBW as well, and it seems no one has heard of it...

It's actually called the Joey reversible mei tai, and is made by a WAHM in the UK. Very good reviews on the reviews section of TBW. The company is called joey sling.

Thank you!

i've never tried the other two, but i love, love, love my Kozy. in fact i just traded some stuff i wasn't using for another one

they are incredibly sturdy, very supportive. Kozy is my 'workhorse' carrier - it gets put through the ringer - puked on, thrown in the back of the car, washed and dried a zillion times. it still looks great, still feels great. all my babies have been big ones, so support for a heavy baby toddler is a big big factor for me, and i find the canvas that the Kozy is made of to support that weight a lot better than mei tai's made from twill. and its larger body is good for taller kids too - in fact, just playing around i made dinner with my 42 pound 5.5 yo on my back in the Kozy the other night. i'm not saying i could do that all day or anything, but i was impressed at how well it still supported her weight.

so i vote Kozy. you can usually get them gently used for around $50 over at thebabywearer.com - and there are actually a couple of vendors who are selling brand new ones for $55-$65 right now

With a 22 pound 9 month old - as my DD was and now she's 27 at 20 months - I personally would go with a padded/structured waist. For a larger baby, they are a lot more comfortable IMO.

I don't know about the Joey Slings. But I know the bamberoo has a padded waist, and I know the Kozy does not. So, that being said, I would go with a bamberoo.

I loved loved loved my Kozy - so that is a great carrier too. My personal opinion (and let me say again that I loved my Kozy) is that mei tais that are big brand names like that are standard MTs - with a WAHM MT like bamberoo, you get more features typically speaking. High end WAHM MTs seem to have a lot more bells and whistles so to speak.

I have a bamberoo and an 8 month old 23.5 lb baby boy. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my bamberoo. It is so comfy, DS feels absolutely weightless. It is padded and sturdy and wonderful.
HIGHLY recommended.
ETA: I bought my bamberoo used on thebabywearer.com. It wasn't terribly cheap but it was entirely worth it. I never use my stroller anymore.
