using a laser for filling a cavity

My 8 year old daughter has to have a few cavities filled and our dentist told us he wants to use a laser. I've searched on the web and only came across one article from 1996 that raised concerns about using laser dentistry with children. The reason they gave is that with children you run the risk of the laser hitting the root and causing permanent damage. Has one heard of this or other risks about using a laser that we should be concerned about?

I see that no one ever replied to this, but I am curious about the experience. Did you end up getting the work done with the laser? How did it go?

I'm curious too. Taking the kids in for Dentilase on Tuesday ... seemed like the most pain free option.

Anyone know anything about this?
