Baby's first trip

We took our first trip to Kansas last week so baby could meet her great-grandparents. It went pretty well. It takes all day to get there, so we had to stop evey couple of hours to nurse. My grandparents loved holding the baby!

Glad you enjoyed the trip. We'll probably be making our first trip in April when I take the kids to Virginia during DD's spring break from school. My mom's a teacher and their Spring Breaks are the same week this year so I'm planning on taking the kids. Should be interesting - driving 10-11 hours by myself with three kids.

Yay for baby's first road trip! Did you nurse in the car? We will probably do the same thing as Ferrum and head south over spring break to see grandparents and my grandmother.

Baby nursed in the car, the booth at mcdonalds, whatever was convenient. I thought there would be a lot more crying, but she actually slept most of the way.

ferrum- I can't imagine traveling by myself with 3 kids! Sounds like fun once you get there though!

Evan's first trip will be to east TX Feb 20 for a Mardi Gras parade my family are in. (thats my b-day too!!!) It'll take about 4 hours, maybe a little bit less. I'm almost positive he'll sleep the entire time...he zonks out when we get into the car.

When Aya was 2 weeks we took our 1st trip. We went to Maine/New Hampshire and had a great time! That is about a 4 or more hour drive. When she was 4 weeks we drove 3 hours to NYC too. That was just a day trip (dp's works there often) I think we'll be heading back to NH for some snowmobiling soon (not me or babe...just the bigger kids )

She did great and we pulled over at rest stops or what not when we needed to.

We also took our first trip at two weeks. We went to Koh Samui (Samui Island) with my parents, brothers and brothers' GFs. I was pretty nervous to go (when we planned it I thought DD would be a month old at the time) but we had a blast. She slept soundly on the short plane ride and we pretty much played pass the baby all week at the beach house we rented. The only downside was all the disapproving looks and comments I received from the local population... made me feel kinda guilty.

Huh, why were they disapproving? B/c she was so young?

Yes... also disapproving because I didn't have her all bundled up like a burrito (It is HOT here people!!!) The custom here is to not leave the house with the baby for several months. Babies are very popular in Thailand (people are practically fighting themselves to give me a seat on the skytrain and EVERYONE has to have a look at her) but after the initial coos and questions, no one hesitates to tell me what I am doing wrong (she should be home, she is too cold, she should have her hands covered, etc.) One woman even told me when I was holding her upright on my shoulder that I should only hold her in the cradle position... thats how she knows mommy loves her. Ughh... she LIKES to be held upright... gimme a break!!

Huh, it sounds like having my MIL around all the time

And it's true that the only way I know my mom loves me is if she holds me in the cradle position.
