Do you think this is accurate?

I read that women who have short periods (cycles) usually go into labor on the sooner side, whereas women with long cycles tend to go late.

Does this seem to ring true for you? I have long cycles so I hope its wrong!

Not in my case...27 day cycles...10-13 days past due dates with all kids so far!

Nope! Long cycles here; 30 days with bleeding lasting a full week. I've had mine at 39 weeks, 41 w 6 d and 40 w 2 d.

Long cycles here, 30 -31 days and first was 40 wks on the nose, second was 5 days early. Still no clue about this one!

No, I usually have shorter cycles (28 days) and am pretty consistent/regular, too. Yet my babies have gone to nearly 42 weeks, and exactly 41 weeks.

Due this month, but a lurker here instead of a regular poster. The reason they say this, I believe, is because people tend to ovulate 14 days before their period starts. So, for people that have a 28 day cycle, they would ovulate on day 14. If someone has a 38 day cycle, that would put them ovulating on day 24, 10 days later. If you just look at everyone gestating around the same length of time, the pregnancy that began 10 days later would likely end 10 days later. Make sense?

I think it is more that estimated due dates are miscalculated when by the wheel, and not by ovulation date (women with shorter cycles ovulate sooner, women with longer cycles ovulate later, than day 14).

My mom had long cycles, and ovulated much later than doctors would put on her chart. And then she also went "late". But we were all perfectly cooked, except her "41 weeker" who presented like 37 weeks. Okay, but could obviously have used more time to cook.

Yeah, with my first son who went to nearly 42 weeks, he showed NO signs of being a later baby-- he was just barely done-- although I was certain of my dates. I think I ovulated later than usual for me-- it was the month I got married, so I think all the stress threw my usually regular cycle off a little!

This makes perfect sense -- by LMP date I would be 40 weeks tomorrow (whoa!!), but an early ultrasound put my due date at February 17, 12 days later. Which was right in line with what I was thinking, given that I'd had several negative pregnancy tests in the 10 days or so after my period was expected if I'd had a normal 28-day cycle that month.

Nope. Not my case at all. I had longer cycles -- like 31-33 days (and charted so I knew precisely when I ov'd, etc.) -- and last time waters broke spontaneously at 38w6d. Baby was born next day.

This time I ovulated on day 14. Which is bizarre for me and never happens. Usually I ovulate later in my cycle.

I think babies are born when babies are ready and cycle length has nothing to do with it unless it's not known when the mama ovulated.

My cycles were long (35-40 days) and resulted in late ovulation. However my last baby was born at 40wks and showed all the signs of being overdue...

28 days here, and mine have varied, 36 weeks, 41+ and 34 weeks. : Plus right now I am 4 days from my EDD

I'm not from your DDC, but I can kind of understand WHY that may be assumed. If you have a shorter cycle, it would be assumed you ovulate SOONER in the cycle. But that isn't always the case. I ovulate around day 18-21 and only have 27 day cycles. I had my baby at 40 weeks exactly. I did have my membranes stripped, so who knows?

I have 30-32 day cycles and even basing my EDD on ovulation date instead of LMP my kids have been born at 39w4d, 38w4d and 37w4d.
