The Sims 3

Thread Starter
was anybody interested in this?

i was and i mean WAS pretty excited about the game as it WAS due out in just over a week, yep 1 week, but now the powers that be at EA have delayed the release, till JUNE!!!!! bloody JUNE!!! thats FOUR MONTHS!!! four whole MONTHS, that game was going to be my gift from DH for our 10 years since we got together anniversary this month!!!!

i am not a happy bunny.

not much i can do but venting feels good. also i wanted to give anyother fans the heads up that they have pulled the rug out from under us.

DH reckons that something is wrong with the game and they dont want to admit it. some people over at the sims 2 BBS think its all about marketing.

the press reliase seem to corroborate the marketing ploy

Quote:
“The June launch combined with the break-through game the team is building gives us the perfect runway to create awareness for The Sims 3,” said Russell Arons, Vice President of Marketing for EA.

im really glad theyre going to take the time to work out the bugs.
theyve been guilty of rushing out stuff before and having it be annoyingly buggy.

not that ill be able to play sims 3 until i get a new computer :/

After the Spore debacle i an understand that. But if they knew the game was buggy, hey could of announce a lot sooner than 3 weeks before release it was going to be delayed, if its bug filled NOW it could if been bug filled in December.

i can understand it if it is bug ridden, but at least they could say, oops guys sorry but we noticed a few bugs so we are going to take some time to get them sorted out and get it to you in june, sorry about that.. but no they say, yeah, we are just gonna keep it cos we want more time to market it. (runway to create awareness).

they are alienateing a lot of "diehard" loyal fans to try to ge a few newer fans. now that is been put back, i am not going to go pay full price for a game i wont beable to enjoy for around 6 months after its out, so i will just wait the 6 months (christmas 2009) and buy it when the price drops, or get a pre owned copy.

I was very sad when I read that. I was getting all excited and was about to go over to the local EB and put my pre order in, went to look it up and bam, found out it would be delayed. I'm not a happy camper.
My daughter is bummed. It was supposed to be a late Christmas present for her. Now it's going to be a really late present.
The delay doesn't bother me because I'm not all that impatient. I don't care for EA customer contact/service in comparison to Maxis, if that is more the issue.

I'm not even sure I'm excited about Sims 3. I heard you need internet to play it. Why?

With the entire neighborhood aging when you are playing one sim, if you play one sim a long time, the other one can have grandkids and be dead before you return to play that sim. My memory is hard enough when lots save upon exit.

I assume that means I will no longer be able to pause game play. I might have to exit the neighborhood in order to pause the game.

Why does this game require internet? Is it becoming a multi player game? I only have dsl and won't be changing it because it's the cheapest internet for this area and I hate changes anyway that are unnecessary. So, my internet is slow. If this game depends upon the internet to play, I bet I'll be getting tons of lag and that just doesn't sound fun.
Oh cool, I didn't even know another Sims was in the works! Of course, I never buy games brand new and it wouldn't run on my current PC anyway (it's about 6 years old), so maybe it's something for this Christmas for me. Checking out the site now, wow you can walk around the neighborhood with them in this, I've been waiting for that.

I am actually excited about there being this thread about Sims 3. Still hoping someone knows why internet is needed to play Sims 3.
I don't see anything about requiring an internet connection in their sys reqs, just lotsa RAM and a fast processor, and up to date graphics card stuff. Maybe they meant you need internet to share created sims and things like that online like they advertise you can.

Sims 3 Character Traits

Absent-Minded Sims get lost in their thoughts and occasionally forget what they are doing, or where they are going.

Ambitious Sims dream big and are more rewarded when their wishes are satisfied in life. They are driven to move up the corporate ladder more quickly, but fall prey to low mood if they don't quickly receive the promotion they desire.

Anglers catch fish better than other Sims. They also enjoy fishing more than anyone else.

Artistic Sims are naturally gifted artists with a paint brush. They also make pretty good writers and musicians.

Athletic Sims are the best athletes in town. They can push themselves harder and longer than others, and will do so to feel the burn.

Bookworms have a passion for reading that surpasses their other desires. They also tend to become good writers.

Brave Sims are fearless individuals that will fight fires, wrangle burglars, and work to protect those around them.

Sims that Can't Stand Art will never appreciate the latest masterpiece or expensive home decor. They are the anti-connoisseur.

Charismatic Sims love to socialize with others and often know the perfect thing to say in every conversation. They also like to throw parties.

Childish Sims find it difficult to "act their age." They love playing with children's toys, see things through the eyes of a child, and need to be constantly entertained.

Clumsy Sims muck up both precious and every day moments in life with shoddy footwork and poor planning.

Sims with Commitment Issues don't really want to settle down into a long-term relationship or a lifelong career. Marriage is out of the question!

Computer Whizzes love spending time on the computer. They are great at tinkering with computers, and can even make money as hackers if they choose.

Couch Potatoes are perfectly happy sitting on the couch to watch TV and eat junk food. They'll need additional prodding to lead active lives.

Cowards are terrified of everything that can and will go bump in the night. They are scared of the dark and will frequently faint in "dire" situations.

Daredevils seek the extreme side of life, even if it means taking an everyday chore extreme. They also love fire.

Sims that Dislike Children do not want to have anything to do with children. No talking, no playing, and certainly no reproduction.

Easily Impressed Sims are easily astounded by everyday stories and are always pleased with the smallest of accomplishments.

Evil Sims love the dark, take great delight in the misfortune of others, and prefer to lead a life as far away from goodness as possible.

Excitable Sims get excited about... pretty much everything. They enjoy an extra dose of self-satisfaction when good things happen for them in life.

Family-Oriented Sims make great parents. They love big families and being surrounded by their children.

Flirty Sims are constantly looking for romance and are most often quite successful in this endeavor.

Friendly Sims smile frequently at others and are quick to make friends.

Frugal Sims love to clip coupons to save money, relish a good deal, and hate being wasteful.

Good Sims go out of their way to help friends and family in need, are charitable with their money, and frequently comfort those around them.

Sims with a Good Sense of Humor tell the best jokes that never fall flat or fail to entertain.

Great Kissers kiss better than any other Sim. They give kisses that are not easily forgotten.

Green Thumbs are the best gardeners. They find solace and comfort amongst their gardens and can revive plants in the worst of conditions.

Handy Sims are the best tinkers. They will never fail when repairing or upgrading a household item, which makes electrical objects far less dangerous.

Sims that Hate the Outdoors despise being outside and will always remain indoors whenever possible.

Heavy Sleepers will sleep through any situation, no matter how loud or alarming. They also tend to snore.

Hopeless Romantics passionately seek their soul mate. They want romance, true love, and surround themselves with cheesy romantic television and novels.

Hot-Headed Sims are quick to anger. Broken household items, conversations gone awry, or even the slightest negative Moodlet will all send them into a boiling rage.

Hydrophobic Sims are terrified of swimming. They loathe every second they have to spend in the pool.

Inappropriate Sims talk about the wrong thing at the wrong time, never think to dress properly, and never think to apologize when they've wronged someone. They enjoy mocking others with harsh words.

Insane Sims respond to events in life unpredictably. They say what they want, do what they want, and even wear what they want, even if it doesn't make sense to anyone else.

Kleptomaniacs "accidentally" end up with things owned by others. They often "permanently borrow" items from work, school, or even their neighbor's homes.

Light Sleepers toss and turn throughout the night and are woken up by the slightest bump in the night.

Loners enjoy time spent alone more than time spent with others. Quite shy, they will never approach anyone that isn't a close friend. They prize their solitude and get nervous around large groups.

Losers encounter woe and misfortune throughout their lives, beginning with school and continuing into their career. They will fail, and fail often. They won't get mad even when life falls apart. They'll just cry.

Loves The Outdoors - These Sims love spending time outdoors and find a special joy amidst nature that others do not.

Lucky Sims are closely followed through life by a comforting sense of luck. They win often and they win big.

Mean Sims love to fight, mostly because they never lose in a brawl. They take satisfaction with every new Enemy made and dream of new ways to be nasty to others.

Mooches can mooch food and money from their neighbors, who for the most part just go along with it.

Natural Cooks are able to kick any dish up a notch, making their food the most delicious to eat. They learn to cook more quickly than others, and never burn down the kitchen in the process.

Neat Sims always find time to clean, regardless of their mood. They are easily devastated by filthy surroundings, but will never leave a mess behind.

Neurotic Sims will freak out at the most minor of provocations. They can become stressed easily and can be difficult to mellow. Luckily they take solace in sharing their worries with others.

Never Nudes despise nudity and will never, ever, completely remove all of their clothing.

Sims with No Sense of Humor tell terrible jokes, so they tend not to tell them. They also don't enjoy the jokes of others. Humor is simply wasted on them.

Over-Emotional Sims experience greater mood swings than other Sims when both good and bad things happen to them. They are constantly shedding tears of joy, whether it's at a wedding or just on their couch watching romantic television.

Party Animals love to party, and others love to party with them. When a Party Animal hosts a party, everyone comes and has a great time. Woo!

Perfectionists spend more time cooking, writing, or even painting, but what they eventually finish is noticeably better than something created by other Sims. Perfectionists accept nothing shy of perfection.

Schmoozers are really good at befriending neighbors, co-workers, and sucking up to their bosses. They love to flatter and are very good at it.

Slobs constantly leave messes in their wake. To make matters worse, they won't offer to pick up or clean. Luckily, common filth won't offend their senses.

Snobs are very hard to impress, though they love hearing about themselves and will never turn down a compliment. They dream of owning only the finest things and being associated with the highest echelon of neighborhood Sims.

Technophobe Sims hate television. They will never watch a television except in dire circumstances and will always look for an alternative source of entertainment.

Unflirty Sims do not appreciate the romantic advances of others and will be difficult to woo. It's not that they don't want to love, just that it's difficult for them.

Things rarely go right for Unlucky Sims. They often lose at everything they touch, though some do take pity on their misfortune...

Vegetarian Sims never choose to eat meat, and doing so causes them to quickly become ill.

Virtuosos have a natural gift with musical instruments and are often considered the best musicians. As such, they earn more as musicians when playing for tips and learn more quickly.

Workaholics love to work and rarely become stressed from working. Their mood suffers when they miss work, but they are able to make it up by working from home. Workaholics make the best employees.

I would probably from the following for my first sim:

Artistic Sims are naturally gifted artists with a paint brush. They also make pretty good writers and musicians.

Virtuosos have a natural gift with musical instruments and are often considered the best musicians. As such, they earn more as musicians when playing for tips and learn more quickly.

Good Sims go out of their way to help friends and family in need, are charitable with their money, and frequently comfort those around them.

I will definitely choose these three:
Inappropriate Sims talk about the wrong thing at the wrong time, never think to dress properly, and never think to apologize when they've wronged someone. They enjoy mocking others with harsh words.
~and~
Insane Sims respond to events in life unpredictably. They say what they want, do what they want, and even wear what they want, even if it doesn't make sense to anyone else.

Then perhaps the following once I've used up the above traits:
Loves The Outdoors - These Sims love spending time outdoors and find a special joy amidst nature that others do not.

Heavy Sleepers will sleep through any situation, no matter how loud or alarming. They also tend to snore.

Bookworms have a passion for reading that surpasses their other desires. They also tend to become good writers.

I originally saw it mentioned as:
* INTERNET CONNECTION required. See product pack for details.
in an article I read online on a Sims 3 website.

This is another article that mentions a need for internet connection:

I think they all have said that, maybe just to register? I don't know.

I was soooo sad the other day when I found out it's being delayed, I've been waiting for so long

I feel the delay may be partly because they decided to release an iPhone version...I kind of feel like they're holding off to release them at the same time.

I'm glad I didn't pre-order months ago when I wanted to, I would be really annoyed.

I got it the day it came out! I am very happy with it, except that the neighborhood is set up where you can't place multiple families in one neighborhood and switch between them freely. Like if you leave one family and come back to them they may have had a baby or gotten a new job. So if you want to play multiple games at once without them continuing in the background without you you have to save the games separately which clones your neighborhood and you just have that one family you have made, along with all the defaults. I am hoping they come up with a cheat to make that part like TS2. Overall though it is much better.

You can't pick both of those options at the same time. It would be pretty hilarious though, lol!

OK, got it.. its ok. I REALLY dislike the way you scroll aroudn to view everything. Very difficult to control.
I don't like it. The story mode toggle button does not work. EA games said they are working on a fix, but right now the game is almost unplayable (to me). I thought story mode would make sense - people marry, get jobs, have kids, etc. But instead everything is totally random and you end up with babies laying on the floor of any old house. Two brothers living together? Baby laying on the floor. Old man about to die? Baby laying on the floor. Two bedroom house and no money? Five kids and a baby laying on the floor. Ugh! I downloaded Riverview and wanted to play the mayor and before I got to her, she moved in with the gardener lady for no reason - had a house of her own and she goes and moves in with a stranger. I had to move her into an ugly starter house because she lost all her money and belongings. And don't get too attached to any one family because they can up and move out of the whole neighborhood completely.

I've been trying to ignore the new sims because I'd need a new computer to play it which I don't plan on buying any time soon.

Of course now that it's been released I've been checking out reviews online. I've heard nothing but bad things about it. Apparently there are a lot of glitches. Lots of complaints about playability as well. I guess the new system isn't as user friendly as it should have been.

Like a pp said earlier, one of the big complaints is that your families can up and move it out without any input from you.

It's too bad because I think the personality traits aspect and the neighbourhoods being in your main screen (no loading) is a big improvement over the older games.
