Brazilian Judge decides a TV is an "essential good"

A Brazilian judge awarded $2,600 (1,824 pound) in damages to a man who sued a store for not replacing his faulty television set, ruling that it was an "essential good" needed to watch soccer and a popular reality TV show.

I'm having a really really hard time wrapping my head around this. But then, I was having trouble figuring out why congress would be causing all sorts of problems by postponing the switch to digital, too. I just can't think of TV as essential. While I have one, and we're NOT tv free, I still don't think it's essential, at all. I thought you ladies might understand.

When I read the title I was sure it would be about a parent getting accused of neglect for not providing their child with a TV. Whew.

well Different cultures value different things. In Brazil Soccer is a BIG deal. Unfortunately TV is starting to become that here like my mom looks at me as if I am torturing my children because we hardly watch tv. and I do not have "Nickjr" or Disney for my kids. She always tells me the story of her cousin who went without tv as a kid but as soon as he got a job he bought his own tv.
