Could I be going into labor?

First-time mom here. I know there is no way to really know, and it's possible my mind and body are playing tricks on me, but I feel "different."

I've had loose BMs and diaharea for nearly 3 weeks. During these 3 weeks, I have not been gaining any weight, and I felt energized until Saturday I felt a 180 towards exhaustion. Now I feel like I have the flu, but it's not like that all day (mostly in the morning). I've been feeling light cramping...just like I feel before I get my period.

Then, last night I felt really antsy for no reason (I'm usually exhausted by 10pm). It was odd. The heartburn I usually experience disappeared so I had been hoping to have a nice rest for once... Well, I finally got myself to fall asleep, but in the middle of the night I woke up with my heart racing. I was having contractions. They weren't that regular and most of them were like typical BH, but the last one I had took my breath away.

This morning I feel like puking.

I've been feeling for some reason like things could go early. I don't know why. It makes no sense. My mother and sister were very late with their first pregnancies and since this is my first I know statistically this baby is more likely to come after the DD. And actually, part of me would prefers she waits another week or two. We still have a couple things to do here and my birthday is on Friday (though it would be a wonderful birthday gift to hold my daughter in my arms so soon ).

Am I crazy?

Relax and Breathe. You might be, you might not

Trust me, you will know. You are 37 weeks ? I'd hope to wait a little longer.

I am having my 4th baby . . . and have been having some good contractions between 5-7 minutes all morning . . . and I still have no clue whether or not I am going into labor!

It's a major guessing game! I am just waiting around to see if they closer and more painful. We shall see!

It is really hard to tell, some of your signs are really good signs that labor is going to start but at the same time they are signs of being sick or just your body getting ready.

Wish I had the answers for you. Try to get some rest, drink lots of fluids and just take it easy. You will know soon enough if it is the real deal!

Actually, I would lean towards sick and need to get some rest. Try to eat really healthy and take a bunch of vitamin C.

Have you talked to your OB about any of this? It is not a good thing to have diarrhea for an extended period of time during pregnancy, since it may cause you to become dehydrated. Yes, be sure to drink plenty of fluids (NOT apple juice), and avoid caffeine completely. And call your OB or midwife a.s.a.p. Good luck!

Hmmm...

I really don't think I'm sick, but—just in case—I am taking it easy. The flu-like symptoms only last through the mornings. They are gone by the afternoon, and I'm either feeling pretty "normal" again or antsy. The diarrhea hasn't been sporadic (unlike food poisoning or stomach flu). It also seems like if it was a virus or food poisoning I wouldn't have it for 3 weeks. It has a pattern, too—twice a day at almost the same times (sorry, told TMI).

I'm probably over-reading into it all though. Just feels weird right now. It's kind of exciting, though, to say the least. Maybe I should start a DD betting pool.

Yes, I have. The midwives didn't seem concerned. They thought maybe it was a bug (I wasn't very dilated—not that necessarily means anything)...but that was like a week ago and it's still here. I'll ask them again at my prenatal today.

It's not painful, heavy or liquidy (totally TMI—sorry). Mostly just loose and messy (yuck). I am drinking lots of fluids to stay on top of it. I don't feel dehydrated...kind of the opposite, actually. My skin is pretty supple (except for my legs—they always get dry/itchy during winter here), and seems like every part of my body wants to leak right now (lots of saliva and other fluids).

Sounds more like you are sicky than in labor.

Those are all pretty common prelabor symptoms. It could be a touch of a virus but it sounds pretty normal to me given what I've been experiencing (and according to my Penny Simkin books, it's all normal prelabor stuff).

You're not the only one.

Fortunately it usually means that your body is more than likely doing something -- effacing, dilating, something, even if it's minor. Unfortunately, there's no indication of when it will turn into active/real labor.

Hang in there. Stay hydrated and rest when you can.
