fring on a shawl?

I finally finished my plain old triangle shawl out of dark red alpaca- it is so beautiful and soft and huge! Anyway- I finally blocked it- amazing! And now I am not too sure if I want to put fringe on it..... I like it the way it is I think. But I saved enough yarn for fringe- so I feel kind of bad not using it. However- I don't think I want to use it for another project- because if I changed my mind I would never in a million years be able to get the same dye lot.

What do you think- fringe or no fringe? I even made eyelets in the shawl for easy fringing.....

I tend to think fringe get dirty fast and shows wear sooner than the rest of a knitted item so I would have to vote -no.

I like the clean look of no fringe.

You could use the leftover yarn for fingerless mitts depending on the amount for the whole peice or for trim. That way you have a set in case you are cold while knitting

I hate fringe. I really do. It's also, IME, time consuming and rather a pain in the rear to do. If you want something fancy along the edge, how about a ruffle? It should use roughly the same amount of yarn (I think, if not a little less), and would also be much easier to take care of. You can certainly anchor it in the same eyelets you intended for fringe.

How can we possibly give an opinion without a picture? :

I'm kind of anti-fringe too. But we really do need a pic. The eyelets might make a nice edge themselves.
